It's a Clarity PHEV, not an Insight. The new Insight looks really good, actually.
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...ork-auto-show/ I've yet to even get a single leaf to grow on my "eco-meter". I have too much fun squirting around town with it. |

Every time I see a brand new Accord I just can't help but think to myself how odd it looks. They seem extremely long with the way they're proportioned now with that faux-hatchback look and seemingly giant wheels.

Polestar 2 looks pretty good. Maybe I should lease one out of state and try to register it in Colorado. I have a friend there that can iron out any details if there is a problem.

Will the gas engine kick on if you floor it even with the battery charged? The Prius and PacHy encourage one to drive slowly or at least at a reasonable pace due to this—don’t want to hear that gas engine! But the Tesla just encourages me to zoom zoom everywhere. |

This intrigued me, so while running errands this morning I popped over to Mile High Honda. Thoughts: I fit in it with the seat dropped. Like the Prius (and Model S and other steeply raked A pillar cars) the windshield feels oddly far away. The one I sat in was a base trim. Materials felt cheap. How can people live with a center screen that small?! Sales guy was clueless. I asked him whether they move many and he said no. I mentioned that’s a shame because of Colorado’s state tax credit for them and he muttered some nonsense about how all states have a tax credit. Uh, no. |

So that $35k-before-incentives Model 3 news, eh?
Since this is the place where I park my unordered thoughts on car-related things: - full glass roof is retained even with non-Premium interior - base interior has manual seats and no seat heaters (!) - one must opt for Premium interior (and stereo and live traffic, etc.) with the medium and large batteries, so no getting a stripper Performance - long range RWD is back and now with a rated range of 325 miles as opposed to the LR AWD's 310 - Performance says 3.2 seconds and 162 mph--I thought it was 3.3?! In Colorado a true base Model 3 would be ~$26,250 (but with TTL on $35k). That's pretty damn good for a 5.6 seconds 0-60, 220 mile range EV with (non-free) access to a good fast-charging network. I am still planning on going through with my LR AWD -> Performance swaperoo once winter tire season is behind us. I like the concept of going cheap, like with an effective $26k base 3, but I also like heated seats and AWD in our weather here. And if AWD is in the game and I can get good terms on the trade... Note that there is some trickery in their pricing in that now they are selling non-Enhanced Autopilot for $3k and Full Self Driving for $5k over that $3k, yet FSD == EAP + promises for later this year. Besides that I think the pricing for the Performance and LR AWD stayed constant. |

The main gauge is a power meter that shows you how much thrust you can use before it cranks up the ICE. In EV mode the arc is almost all blue. Once you cross over to HV mode (either by going beyond the blue arc, or selecting the HV mode manually) the blue arc will go away while the engine is being used and come back to varying degrees based on recent driving conditions. It will allegedly crank up the engine if you've got a full battery and are heading down a mountain while demanding regen. It shunts the traction motor regen power over to the generator motor to turn the engine as an indirect engine braking. This is to prevent the total lack of regen at a full battery like most (all?) EVs. I only live on a 150ft hill, so I've yet to get it to engage that mode. Of course, it will occasionally start and run the motor for fluid circulation reasons if it hasn't run in a month or so... and holy crap does that piss off the hypermilers online that hate to have the ICE ruin their day (I don't know why they didn't just buy a Leaf). It also has a HV Charge mode... so that you can put some charge into the battery if you've depleted it and don't want to, say, climb to a mountain pass with a dead battery, but you aren't near a charger. You can drive around or even get out of the car and it will charge itself a bit faster than 240V would. I need to figure out if I can hack something to use it as a home generator for emergencies. |

The above changes are likely just software changes or marketing changes. I think that LR AWD pricing actually went down. Which probably means our trade-in value went down. Of course the Performance model is now also cheaper, so maybe it balances out. Have you ran the numbers yet? Did you see that S and X pricing also went down? My neighbor's fully loaded Model X (which they've had a ton of issues with) would be $13k cheaper to buy today than when they bought it a few months ago. I read that the LR RWD has always had more than 310 miles range, but that Tesla asked the EPA for the same 310 mile rating as the LR AWD for marketing. https://electrek.co/2018/07/24/tesla...ngs-advertise/ The 6% increase promised in power is interesting. As far as I can tell the LR AWD and Performance pricing is unchanged since the late-January second price drop ($3100 down from Dec 31 pricing). Only big difference I can see now is the former EAP + FSD tree vs now AP + FSD: $5k + $3k or $3k + $5k, same difference or effectively cheaper if one goes for "just" AP now. What's with the hyperactive auto-high beams on the 3? Some old guy next to me couldn't maintain a constant speed and kept speeding up and slowing down next to me, and every time his front bumper got an inch or two past mine I'd see the high beams flick on, just for him to slow down and speed back up. The second that thing sensed there wasn't an oncoming car they'd come on.

Ah, I take that back. LR AWD pricing indeed dropped, claimed $2.9k via this post: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...postcount=2772
A LR AWD with AP and similar options to mine comes out to be $52.7k including destination. That's $8k under mine, which does have EAP instead of AP (so the true comparison that you can't get now would be $54.7k instead). I got $3750 more in tax credits but they pay a bit less tax. Any way you cut it it's effectively cheaper now. This will probably kill resale, yes. Maybe CarMax's auction data isn't up to date enough to reflect this and I can still play them off of Tesla in April or May, though. |

The M3P with non-E AP in my paint color (relevant since small upcharge) is now $63.7k including destination. Current incentives in Colorado take that down to $54,950 net with TTL on the full price.
Not bad... if the trade works at all. Big if. I should also not only wait out snow tire season but also wait out the Model Y announcement. If the Y is in my future then no Full Self Driving on a theoretical Performance. |

I used Autopark today for the first time. It did a decent job. I, too, would have done a decent job.
Meh. I deliberately sidled up close to the car in front of the space I was eyeing. I read this is what one must do to get that magic P to appear, and so it was. |

That’s me on the way back from skiing today. I knew it would likely fail so was ready to catch it. Note that it goes from all is well to “Take Control Immediately” in an instant. Not ready for prime time in all situations, with it not even able to turn on if snow obscures the lane markings. |

In pretty sure it’s because of the lane markings on the right being covered by dirt at the time it abruptly punted control to me. As Elon Musk seems to consider NoA on highways to be a finished product this leads me to be very skeptical of the FSD timeline, as I’ve posted in recent weeks. Perhaps he considers being able to complete a trip on sunny Silicon Valley roads to actually constitute FSD. |

I don’t see myself ever wanting an autopilot on a road like that.
