There isn't much point in buying headers. The stock cast iron exhaust manifold works wonders. No porting either. Cast iron retains heat better than heat wrapping other headers. The heat retension aids in the rapid expansion of exhaust gases after it has entered the exhaust which equals more exhaust pressure equalling better spool up. Just for reference I'm running a GT30R, 850cc, external wastegate and perrin front mount all with a stock exhaust manifold. I have also riden in an 04 sti, built block, cosworth heads, twinscroll GT40R turbo w/ a custom up pipe (for the twinscroll) and a stock exhaust manifold, so if all this can be done on a stock manifold I don't see the point in going through all those fitment problems unless you just need a daily dose of frustration.

Mine work good and I have about 6,000 miles on them. I did the same as he did and heat wrapped them. They are however a pain to put on. I actually trimed mine down a bit in the slip joints and they fit more easily. Everything he has said is correct though great set of headers.

I have gt spec gen II headers and it sounds like the ebay header is just as difficult to install. I think one-piece headers with no flex-joint are a p.i.t.a. regardless of the manufacturer (try installing gt spec's with the 3 bolt up pipe). I.M.O. it's difficult to make poor flowing exhaust components, the flanges and lack of brand name are where the money is saved. So more power to the $100 header if they stay in one piece.

i had a set for about a year and for the longest time no problems but once they cracked i welded it and within a week cracked again and again so i threw them out and got me some gt specs. the gt specs have twice as thick piping and they also recess the piping into the flanges so the welds are much stronger plus with the 3 bolt flange on the up pipe there wont be any leaks.
to anyone thinking about getting ebay headers, DONT!!!! save yourself the aggravation and buy a quality name brand set of headers. Last edited by novacivic; 09-22-2009 at 12:24 AM. |

Ordered a set. I'll do a dyno comparison shortly between them and my ported stockers with grimmspeed crossover.

i bought some cheap header and up-pipe from e project racing and it was a tight fit, i actually trimmed the slip fits for easier install. The welds on the header look good from my point of view but slip fits leak and will be welding it asap. The tubing is recessed in the flanges and overall seems to be a decent product. For questions about welds or welding you can go to millerwelds.com

I'm bumping this cuz i'm thinking about buying a set off ebay. Everyone keeps talking about how the worst thing was how hard they were to get in. But i already have my engine out so would that bypass that entire problem??

I bout equal length headers on ebay. It was an American Fujisubo knock off. It worked great till the weld cracked 30k later. Had my friend re-weld everywhere and still holding 10k later. I don't have any flex section in my exhaust, so it may have been the stress eventually causing the crack... donno
