What is there to post? We know what goes wrong with the SVX, how to stop/repair what goes wrong, there is no performance aftermarket to speak of, and aside from waiting for someone to post about the first time a SVX gives a smackdown to a WRX, there is not much to say except advise those who are about to buy an SVX, and chatting about salvage yards that have SVX parts. (Damn, I forgot to get the number for the parts yard! )

I work with a guy who has a 5-spd. WRX sedan (thanks to my influence )
We want to do some runs against each other, but can't find a decent, deserted, private road to do so |

Problem solved...we're picking up our WRX tommorow!!!
Ended up getting a black one, 5spd sedan... so.. with both an SVX and WRX I will know which is quicker and under what conditions, very soon! Watch, my junky old Legacy-Turbo whop the sh#@ out of both of em...(I altered it just a teensy bit) |

Flatfour, very cool. Can't wait for the results of an informal SVX vs. WRX showdown...

Yep..
Whore'in and luvin it!
Picked it up yesterday.. First impressions, The SVX will walk all over it BUT .. of course I am under breakin and limited to less than 4000 rpm.. The tires on the WRX hold about as well as my old BigWheel's did.. They are totally different cars in nearly every respect, any I imagine I will not find a favorite between them.. |

Comparisons? Do tell!
CRZ and I have looked at the WRX, and as nice as the 5-speed, and aftermarket is, the interior of the SVX has spolied me. Yes it weighs more than the WRX, and I can see where the weight went. |

Hmmm
The "Uprgraded Stereo" option on the WRX is pathetic! I would hate to hear the standard stereo in the rex..The SVX's kills it easily.. Absolutely no comparison on the interior, but we knew that They "rubber-neck" factor: SVX=90 WRX=30 The AC in the SVX is better, but it is also a smaller interior to cool down.. The WRX suspension feels as if is stiffer by far and easily overdrives its tires, though why they only gave it 6.5" rims is beyond me.. So far , I really feel the SVX will outrun the REX particularilly after 60mph..but I cant really say until I feel the boost.. And finally..the old Legacy Turbo can still whop the SVX up to the first gear-change ..but it is at around 11lbs boost.. Will be back in 842 miles.....must have Boost... Later. |

-Not-
Well, I've only done 500 "break-in miles" with the rex but let me tell you it most certainly isnt a "hands down" win for the rex..
We will know shortly, but i have to think that unless you absolutely dump the clutch on the rex it will be too close to call without a session at the strip. Right now I dont see how the rex is going to out do it from ANY rolling start, and at any speed over 75...I will definately give it to the SVX....BUT I have yet to feel the rex @ 6000rpm through all the gears.. The SVX does completely outclass the car so far in: High speed stability Interior finish Stereo AC 0-4000rpm seat-o-the pants pull! Wins to the rex: Gas mileage!! Chassis stiffness and low speed cornering (even with garbage tires) Braking...(its much lighter) Headroom and visibility..duh.. and The REX versus the old Turbo... Well..I dont think they gave the rex a very good clutch, seems much softer then the legacy's Braking feels the same Rex's chassis is about 100 times as stiff!! 2.2Turbo has more 0-3000pm pull so far (better gearing?) Anyway..more in : 488 miles... Later |

I think what I am going to find is that the rex is faster, under "push comes to shove" situations, and that it really has to be almost abused, particularilly the clutch, to beat the SVX.
Conversely, the SVX can go flat out , full throttle all day, while drinking tea at the same time...so long as you have a trans cooler. later, PS.. only 440 miles till 7000rpm!!!!!!! |

Went to Acto a few months ago. I didn't have my SVX with me (wanted a 1/4 mile on my '01 Impreza RS - 16.2, 16.1), but I did see a few svx's there. They ran 16.0 and 16.1 and my best observed svx 1/4 mile 16.5 at 87mph. There were 2 - '02 Rexes at the track that night and one of them was infront of me. His 1/4 mile was 14.8(with mods, his car is currently scooby of the week, but I can't figure out his name).
There are a few SVX-Ts out there, and that would be awesome match up. (When are you guys going to post 1/4 mile times!) I wish it weren't true; but, the WRX will in on the track. But i think it would be a differently story in a highway race. I love how it pulls at 110 mph and still be silky smooth. Too hard to compare the two cars though for reasons stated above. kev |

2 sec..
Well,
again, I think its the first 2 seconds that matter at a track, and to get a rex to do 14's I still beleive these guys are abusing thier clutch in a way that normally one would'nt do messin around in traffic. A rolling start@ say 10 mph, that, I think would be close.. |

What kind of track are we talking about? I'm thinking a paved track and the SVX will beat the WRX hands down. Also anything other than a sprint out of the gate the SVX will also whoop it. Not to mention that the SVX is just a different class. It's a classy car, not a suped up rice-rocket. I've driven my Aunt's '92 SVX and can't wait to buy it from her in about a yearish.
Heck my XT6 keeps with the WRXs in Auto-x! and I only have a 2.7 145hp H6 under the hood! -mike |
