Summit Point - Any One Interested in Two-day HPDE with Car Guys in November?
I am thinking of attenting the Car Guys' HPDE in November 15 & 16, first time with the STi and with Car Guys.
Any one else interested for one last HPDE before the year's end? "FT" SEL Ground Performance

Do you have more info on the event? Web site?
I drove a good bit at Summit Point (caution, about to reveal my age) in 1987-88. What a fun track. Might be worth a road trip from Chicago. MSG |

Sorry, I should have posted the link: Car Guys
I am not that young myself But I was at Summit Point two weeks ago, and frankly it is not one of the most exciting tracks; I would like to do the VIR actually, now that would really be fun. May be October 18, 19 at VIR? |

Funny-I remember it being fairly challenging. Maybe it's just my nostalgic self. Not the first track I ever drove at, but I had a good bit of track time there in Formula Ford & F2000.
Thanke for the link; I will look into it. MSG |

Hmm big auto-x weekend up in NY/NJ, but depending on price, I might be up for it with my L. I was down there with BMW a few weeks ago and it was a blast. VIR we did last February probably again this feb. VIR takes 2 full days to learn, and my guess several events to really get down pat.

Looks like it's $500 for the two days - on the pricey side.
Summit Point is kind of fun - 1/2 the track is fast, 1/2 is technical. -Keith- |

For those that want something a little cheaper, at the same track, NASA is hosting an HPDE on 11/1 - 11/2.

Car Guys is $500/2-day. It seems pricey but I hear that you do get a lot of track time and its well worth it.
I actually like Summit Point, as CTKAG mentioned some sections are fast, and some are technical; at least in the main course. The Jefferson circuit would be boring for two days I think. My comment as "not too exciting" was to MSG. It may not worth for him to drive down from Chicago, especially for Jefferson. Also, on the other hand I have never been to VIR, and talk about it being a technical track. It is very attractive for me. Paisan - I was with the BMWCCA few weeks ago as well at Jefferson. Do you remember a blue 3 series with yellow tape all over the front? As for NASA, I have never done it before. Do they have races and HPDE on the same day? The price seems more reasonable, but what is it that we compromise ? |

I should be at both the CarGuys and NASA events instructing, assuming my car is (finally) ready. Unfortunately my WRX has been retired from track duty.
to answer your question Fseleker, NASA does in fact hold races as well as HPDE. (the races are fun to watch!) The schedule is much tighter, and the track time is usually around 20-30 min less per day than CarGuys. |

I am comming off rear-wheel drive, and I am finding out that the driving styles (at least for now) is quite different in the WRX then my Bimmer and this would be my first event with the new car. Hence, I would have more confidence if my instructor was someone like yourself. So, if you are going to be at VIR or Summit Point with Car Guys, let me know please, and I'll sign up for that one; hoping and crossing fingers to get you as an instructor |

Wow $500 for 2 days, couldn't find that on their site. That's a bit pricey IMHO.

I also found, Audi club will be doing a 2-day HPDE in October at Summit (both main and Jefferson circuits) and even with membership it is $340. |

$340 isn't bad for 2 days. Jefferson is a great circuit, especially for lower powered cars. -mike |

I've run Summit Point in October the last two years with the Potomac/Chesapeake chapter of the Quattro Club/Audi Owners Club. I also ran their VIR events in April of both years. The events are very well run, you get good track time, they have good instructors (lots of PCA and BMWCCA guys it seems), and it's generally a friendly bunch. Oh, and it certainly was fun crushing S4s in my under-powered Legacy.
There was a group of us that went to all the events together, and the organizers made it a point to come over and talk to us Subie owners. Check with Tony, SteveS, and Fitz on this board - they might be going to the October event. There's also an S4 driver, not sure he posts here anymore, GoFaster - I bought my 2.5GT from him when he upgraded, and I also got him addicted to open track stuff. Here's a write up from the NESIC Forum about last year's event: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...t=summit+point . Don't be turned off by Ray's initial post, the event was very good the organizers were just tense the first day because of the off-track incidents (which were very a-typical for an Audi event, as Ray pointed out). Anyway, I highly recommend running with the Audi group. I also highly recommend running VIR whenever you have the chance. I like the track so much that when I was living in CT I drove 10hr each way 5 times to run weekend events there. Paison - I am sorry, I was with the CCA's National Capital Chapter (NCC), but the time corresponds almost exactly the same and I did not know the NJ chapter ran events at Summit; my bad
Patrick -Our club president (BMWCCA NCC) is actually an instructor with the Audi club (as well as PCA, and Mazda clubs), and I heard similarly high recommendations from him about the Audi HPDEs. I think that is the best option at this time, and their instructors should know how to drive 4WDs Thanks for the link. |

I always get funny looks when I show up with either my SVX with 4EAT or my Impreza L with a 4EAT. They are like "*** is that thing?" But the AT works for me, a bit slow on the straights but hey if I wanted to go fast in a straightline, I'd be driving a rustang at the 1/4 mile tracks

Well, I finally signed up for Summit Point with the PCA. Two days, both Jefferson and main circuits; October 11 and 13th (total: $300).
Also, in October, I will be at the Evo Phase 1 Auto-x school in DC (25th), any one else? VIR, early next season Last edited by FSelekler; 09-08-2003 at 04:27 PM. |

That sounds good, you'll be getting 3 more than I
I personally not a big fan of NASA however. I will do VIR next season with either PCA again, Audi, or Mazda clubs. I should be able to arrange my schedule to fit one of them, darn it |

Why don't you like NASA? Any particular reasons?
I've ran with them for a while, seems fine by me, pretty much the same as BMW. -mike |

Frankly, there is no one real reason. I had more than one friend criticise their sessions not too well fit for novice and intermediate and how they mix NASA races and HPDE.
However, I do not have first-hand experience with them; I guess it is just a prejuidice that probably is not fair to NASA I just almost subconciously look for club HPDEs. I guess, the real reason is because I have too many friends that are instructors and chief instructors in various clubs, and it makes me feel better to be in these event with them. |
