Subaru Events in 2014: WBM clones itself in D.C. and Big NW moves to Portland!
Fellow Subaru Enthusiasts- First, I'd like to thank everyone that comes to our events as well as our staff and volunteers for making 2013 the most exciting season to date. Seeing so many new faces last year and such a dedicated crowd drives us to continuously improve, and this year, begin adding new ones. It's always amazing to see acres of Subarus, each one bringing a carload of smiles, ideas, and energy to the events. Here are some updates on events that we have in the works for 2014. NEW! Boxerfest 2014 presented by Subaru of America and COBB Tuning - May 3rd: Boxerfest is the Mid-Atlantic’s new annual Subaru enthusiast festival put together to give the region an event it fully deserves. This event was born from the many Subaru performance shop owners and enthusiasts requesting we create another festival closer to them - FedExField in Landover, MD, just east of D.C. The all-Subaru autocross, car show, huge array of vendors offering killer discounts, and other activities will give thousands of enthusiasts an opportunity to have an epic day and be surrounded by new and old friends that love that boxer rumble. http://www.boxerfest.com http://www.facebook.com/boxerfest Wicked Big Meet presented by Subaru of New England - June 8th: Returning to Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT for the fourth year in a row, WBM will continue on as the America's largest annual Subaru enthusiast festival. It's the original and grew to 4,000 enthusiasts last year - a lot of Subarus. We did the math on this an it was 6+ acres of cars parked 2ft apart. As one of the biggest auto festivals in the country, we are learning alongside the growth. This year we’ll be both putting new systems in place to minimize lines and are also working to create new activities for everyone to get involved with. Our focus has become entirely centered around guaranteeing a memorable Subaru experience for you. Did I mention WBM is in its 9th year? http://www.wickedbigmeet.com http://www.facebook.com/wickedbigmeet Big Northwest Meet - August 10th: Every time I’m in Portland, OR, no matter where I am, I hear the sounds of boxer engines. Combine the love for Subarus in the region with an overwhelming number of requests on our Facebook page, we moved the event to Portland International Raceway for 2014. We’re currently looking to add new elements to the event centered around dog lovers, runners, and more in addition to our all-Subaru autocross and car show - I'm not kidding. This will be the best BNW to date. http://www.bignorthwest.com http://www.facebook.com/bignorthwest NEW! All-Subaru Shootout and Show-off: We've got a new tentative track event and festival in the works for later in the summer. It will be located in the Northeast in coordination with our long time partner NASA NE. This NASA is known for organizing safe performance driving and road racing events, as opposed to operating the space program. Details should be announced within a month. About this year’s team: The team is made up of me, Robert Champion, an 11-time Subaru owner and diehard enthusiast. After three different STIs, my ’99 Impreza 2.5 RS is still my daily driver and favorite Subaru to date. I grew up in Delaware and Florida, but my passion for Subarus started while in high school in Vermont, one of the nation’s Subaru havens. Khanh Duong is a mastermind known for his internet personality and in depth knowledge of Subaru modifications and trends. He’s Boston based although a regular of both the Seattle and Philadelphia areas, and he's currently planning out his next build (2015 STI). Andrew Barban, even after 10 years, is still very much in love with his WRX, proving conclusively that true love does exist and can endure. New England raised, Andrew took his Subie to the snowy northlands of Nova Scotia, Canada for several years before returning to Boston and joining the event team. Nate Widtfeldt is a temporarily retired hillclimb driver & rally co-driver. While this long-hated NASIOC moderator is on hiatus from auto racing to raise his two future Subaru enthusiasts in the great state of New Hampshire, he spends his free time teaching people how to break limbs and choke their enemies unconscious in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Kirk Garretson is a three time Subaru owner, with his present 2005 2.5RS being his favorite. Kirk spent his early years growing up in Washington and Oregon and has a passion for Rally. He has recently been providing coverage for the UK's iRally. Evan Woodard is the token Subaru kid from the Mid-Atlantic. His first and only Subaru was a 2.5 RS that was slow and ungodly loud. He's very active on the NASIOC boards and known throughout the Mid-A community. Having spent recent years traveling the world, he’s currently settled in Baltimore, MD and is the newest addition to our team. Thanks for reading and see you soon! Robert [email protected]

So you showed up an hour early with a pre-paid ticket. Were you the first one there? Did you expect special treatment because you pre-purchased a ticket? Have you ever been to an event/concert/restaurant where you confirm ahead of time that you will be there? Because that's all you did by getting your pre-bought ticket. When a show starts at a certain time, that's what time the show starts. Not before. It doesn't matter if you bought a ticket early. Gates at 9AM (or whatever) means gates at 9AM. If you show up early, that's your problem. It means you'll be the very first person to have to wait. Congrats!! On the flip side, when you have 1000's of people descend on a single place at the same time, that kind of thing happens. Processing 1000's of people takes time. Many people pre-purchase. All that does is guarantee that they get a ticket as well as some of the perks of buying early (t-shirt included and extra door prize tickets at WBM). PS - Back in the early days of WBM, 2005, I was one of the first groups to show up. This was back when it maxed out at ~450 people. me and my 6 car group showed up and parked in a side lot with about 10 other cars. When the gates opened, even though we were there early and first, the other cars that were all rolling in at the same time got in first. You know what we did? Nothing. Because we didn't whine about every god damned thing that didn't go our way. The youth of today... Last edited by Loyale93; 03-11-2014 at 04:56 PM. |

Ha. Try living in an area things like this don't care for. Chicago had a gathering and is still a solid 8 hour drive. Would absolutely love to attend one of these. They are just always on the extremes for location. MD? Extreme east. Portland? Extreme west. Sucks being in the middle. |

Every 4th or 5th car in montane Montana's a Subaru as well as Portland. It seems like there are always flocks of turbos cruising around Seattle on the I5. There are a lot in Asheville, NC though. A bit of a haul from Memphis, but it offers the opportunity to hit the dragon on the way out there! Last edited by llamsn; 03-12-2014 at 07:39 PM. Reason: correction |

car meets should have civil engineers as part of there team to design the parking to making traffic flow better. being a mechanical engineering major i feel like every meet i go to i could easily fix there problem. If they just had proper traffic directions/flow there would be no issue

Yeah there's tons of meeting up around the big cities, but if you're not near them then it's fairly scarce. During my road trip last year it was impossible to meet with anyone except in Seattle and San Diego.
