Also, I was "inspired" by this thread here so I have been browsing deals, to my gf's chagrin, and had trouble telling the differences between the base and limited model. It seems to me that the limited model has the moonroof and better sound system, which comes out to about 41600 vs. the base at 36500 or so. Is that a correct assessment or am I missing something?
The website breaks down the differences item by item across the entire wrx and sti line.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I already saw that information, but I was looking at the key differences to justify the price increase and wanted to check with you all to see if I missed anything.

Base:
No moonroof
Driver Power Seat Adjusts 8 Ways Total (Optional)
Recaro optional - Ultrasuede®/leather-trimmed upholstery standard
6 vs. 9 speakers, and no navigation
No Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread. If everything works out then I might be in the seat of a new 2020 STI in August

I'm on my 10th new WRX/STI, so... Subaru is extra nice to me.

HOWEVER, it is really easy to get the $500 off Subaru Ambassador coupon if you know where to poke.
Subaru offered me $1000 owner loyalty for my '08 STI, but only $500 for my '14 FXT.

Hey, any of you guys know how long this 0.9% financing offer is going to go for? I read somewhere that it's until June 30th.

I’ve been stalking dealers inventory for STIs since feb and each month the deal has gotten extended to the next. So I’d say it’s pretty likely the deal will at least run from 7/1 -7/31 as well

Don't neglect the used car market if you're just looking for a steal. Plenty of people and dealers trying to move used cars as well. I bought a stock 07 Limited STI with 80k miles for only 16k three weeks ago... YMMV but hopefully this helps someone.

finance is getting scary at this point
zero rates
No payments for 8 months on an exponentially depreciated item
sheesh
If you drive a lot after 8 months the car could be worth 10k less than new and not a single payment made at that point

Yeah, it's kicking the can down the road.. might look okay now, but that is a very dangerous risk to take if one is having financial issues and buying a car. This is like 10yrs ago what caused the recession when creditors were giving generous loans consumers couldn't even afford.

Buy cash or 0% APR and begin payments immediately.

^seriously
It basically appeals the most to the people who most of all should not be buying a new car

I disagree. If you've got the cash to put elsewhere, kicking that can 8 months down the road is the smart thing to do.

My question: how much are dealers coming down from MSRP??? It's not a deal if ALL they're offering is 0% financing. Isn't the used-car market in disarray, too? If you've got a trade, how is that affected? Is anyone still getting decent private party sales on, say, a vanilla Legacy?

I think what he's saying is that if you already have financial issues then kicking the can further down the road will only make your problems worse. It's like adding more debt on when you are already struggling with debt now. Sure you don't have to pay exactly now, but what if your situation does not significantly improve in 8 months? What then? At least that's what I think he meant.

Anyways, from what I've seen in new cars most dealers are offering prices that are close to invoice (I think they are invoices based on what Costco Auto says LOL)

I am curious on the trades as well. Anyone have good luck in getting dealers to give them a good price based on KBB values?

If you are trading in a Subaru try checking your guaranteed trade in value. Make sure that you agree on your purchase price FIRST because guaranteed trade in value is usually very high. It is usually like a private party sale number.

^there's always responses like this regarding these ridiculous financing schemes as if the average long term auto loan customer is some financial expert leveraging tons of cash in the stock market and using the loan to invest more

I sent out a few inquiries and got 2 solid offers from dealers near me so wish me luck y'all. Slightly off-topic, but is it true that the easiest way to get a wing spoiler to replace your lip spoiler is a trunk swap?

Let’s ignore investing AND the average car buyer then. SOME car buyers who don’t have a ton of money will still benefit from a lower payment, as well as be able to keep some extra cash in their savings. What difference does it matter where the money goes, as long as its beneficial to the buyer???

I remember commercials hosted by Montel Williams that sounded a lot like that.
I think it was for payday advance loans or some blatantly predatory crap that somehow became MORE legal AFTER 2009, go figure.

IMO that does not benefit the buyer, that is precisely how you end up owing more than something is worth. I guarantee you NOBODY who takes that deal has a lick of assets anywhere.

The best offer I have for a 2020 STI Limited with PP#1 and ST shifter was $40700ish. Supposedly that is $450 or so below invoice. It didn't have the wing, though, and I got a bit busy with other things in life so I held off on making a trip there.

I will follow up with them again once I am done with my projects in a few weeks, and if the configuration and prices line up again then I'd be all over it.

All prices went up due to lack of inventory.

Contributing to a partial data point. Contacted a dealer that I found and chatted on the phone about special ordering a new 2020 STi Limited and got offered about 3.5k below MSRP. Supply is pretty low in my area, so this is the route I'm looking down.

2020 Subaru WRX STi Limited w/ Wing - CBS
- Aero Splash Guards - Rear
- All-Weather Floor Liners
- Auto-Dimming Mirror with Compass and HomeLink®
- Cargo Tray
- Rear Bumper Appliqué
- STI Short Throw Shifter
- Wheel Locks

MSRP: $44,116
Initial Dealer Offer: $40,627 (before any fees and taxes)

I know it's hard to negotiate a special order, but what are everyone's thoughts? Would you jump on it? Negotiate more? Or should I get in contact with more dealers? This is my third one I got in contact with, other dealers I talked to initially offered $43k and $41.1k. Amazing how much spread there is.

Thanks for any input!
