Oh, well. A very non-Mercedes race.
Great drive by Perez, though. |

Wow, big screw up by LeClec, poor pit stops for the Mercs, something up with Bottas, tough break for Russell, and congratz to Perez.

Mercedes are paying Hamilton too much money for the job
Bottas should pay Mercedes for the cockpit, otherwise he should drive the Williams Ferrari ****ed it up as always Leclerc being the idiot he showed now for a few races Looks like Perez won a 2021 RedBull cockpit |

I was expecting something to keep Russell from winning in the Merc, but I definitely wasn't expecting the team to be the one to drop the ball. Good job to Perez though.

The grid for the last race of 2020 season.
And everyone's favorite F1 track. Pos Driver Team Time Gap 1 Verstappen Red Bull 1:35.246 130.441 mph 2 Bottas Mercedes 1:35.271 0.025 3 Hamilton Mercedes 1:35.332 0.086 4 Norris McLaren 1:35.497 0.251 5 Albon Red Bull 1:35.571 0.325 6 Sainz McLaren 1:35.815 0.569 7 Kvyat AlphaTauri 1:35.963 0.717 8 Stroll Racing Point 1:36.046 0.800 9 Leclerc Ferrari 1:36.065 0.819 10 Gasly AlphaTauri 1:36.242 0.996 11 Ocon Renault 1:36.359 12 Ricciardo Renault 1:36.406 13 Vettel Ferrari 1:36.631 14 Giovinazzi Alfa Romeo 1:38.248 15 Perez Racing Point No Time 16 Raikkonen Alfa Romeo 1:37.555 17 Magnussen Haas 1:37.863 18 Russell Williams 1:38.045 19 Fittipaldi Haas 1:38.173 20 Latifi Williams 1:38.443 Not a good spot for Racing Point for clinching 3rd. Only a 10 point lead. |

Happy that Max won, but it was a snooze of a race.
That track is very difficult to pass on. Other than with DRS I don't remember many passes. Last edited by Plecain; 12-13-2020 at 12:11 PM. |

Yup, another snoozer of a race.
It's funy to think of how much of a reference point Russell has become. He obviously did a great job in the 44 car, but now, we think about how he outdrove Bottas in the one time just dropping in on the car, and this weekend Bottas outdrove Lewis, so what could he have done?? And off we go into the speculation black hole. Speaking of... remember that the Racing point is a copy of last year's Merc? And this year, the Racing Point has been competitive with the Mclaren, Ferrari, and Renault for a good midfield battle, and bringing up the rear is Haas, Alfa, and Williams. But what does that say about the development of the cars to this current rules package - that the midfield teams are up to where Merc was LAST year, and the backmarker teams are where, TWO years ago relative to Mercedes? Interesting to think of how far ahead the Merc car and team is. |

I have become a real Max fan this year. Always rooted for Kimi, and before him in my younger years only Senna. I enjoy Max, he's kinda seems always on the hairy edge, I like that.

Having followed F1 since the mid 1980's, seems the top teams go through up and down cycles. There will always be back marker teams just because of the budgets but the cream seems to rise to to the top in most cases. So many variables have an effect. When I first saw Bottas on FP1 in the wet in Canada back in 2013 I thought he would be someone to watch. When Max came on scene, I have been watching him ever since. George Russell has been a stand out in Williams too. Hopefully he'll get the drive he deserves. I enjoy seeing a driver take a slow car and bring it to the podium. |

The AlphaTauri Formula 1 team has finally confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda will partner Pierre Gasly in 2021.
https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/t...gasly/4927873/ The news has been expected for some weeks, with the Japanese driver having begun his preparations with an outing in a 2018 Toro Rosso at Imola last month. He enjoyed his first run in the current car and on proper race tyres in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, setting the seventh best time of the day. The 20-year-old, who is a protege of both Red Bull and Honda, will be the first Japanese driver to complete at the top level since Kamui Kobayashi in 2014. Tsunoda made a big impact in the FIA F3 series in 2019 with the unfancied Jenzer team, winning the sprint race at Monza. He was fast-tracked into the Carlin F2 team for this year and was a regular points scorer from the off. He won feature races at Spa and Sakhir, and a sprint race at Silverstone, and after strong end to the season he finished third in the championship. Tsnuoda is highly regarded by Red Bull boss Helmut Marko, who told Motorsport.com in Abu Dhabi: “I love him! His speed, the way he overtakes, but also how quickly he learns how to nurse the tyres, and all of that.” AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost said that Tsunoda has already impressed the Faenza outfit. “Red Bull has been following Yuki’s career for a while now and I am sure he will be a great asset to our team,” said the Austrian. “Watching him in F2 this year, he has demonstrated the right mix of racing aggression and good technical understanding. During the test in Imola in November when he drove our 2018 car, his lap times were very consistent over a race simulation, he progressed throughout the day and gave our engineers useful feedback. “In addition, his integration with the Honda engineers has been seamless, which certainly helps. At the test in Abu Dhabi this week, he proved to be a fast learner and that he is ready to make the step to F1.” Tsunoda said: “Like most racing drivers, it has always been my goal to race in F1, so I am very happy with this news. "I want to thank Scuderia AlphaTauri, Red Bull and Dr Marko for giving me this opportunity, and of course everyone from Honda, for all their support so far in my career, giving me great opportunities to race in Europe. “I must also thank the teams that I have raced with to get to this point, particularly Carlin, with whom I have learned so much this year. I realise that I will be carrying the hopes of a lot of Japanese F1 fans next year and I will be doing my best for them too.” |
