The two OPs were great reads. Before reading them, I was pretty much sold on methanol. After reading this thread, I'm now pretty much 100% leaning toward denatured alcohol injection. A 50/50 mix with distilled water seems like the best bet for me. I look forward to it.

So, I guess now my first mods will most likely be Intake/Exhaust/Tune/Alcohol Injection. That seems like a really great place to start. And sounds like I'll gain some really nice power from it.

Then later down the road I can go for more in-depth mods.

Can I still tap into the boost gauge hose from the progressive controller since it's already tee to the bpv?

Mine is taped into my boost gauge line right under my dash and works fine!

Default Looking for the best bang for my buck...

Which system is the best? Is the aquamist worth the extra coin? Also, I have been having challenges finding a good tuner (that specializes on Subarus) in San Francisco...preferably a tuner who has done several Meth Injection installs...does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Great write up - now it's making me consider this as a phase in my mod plan simply for the "conservative tune" application to help keep my daily driver safer at stage 2

just a quick question. if running this setup, i have the manual option to spray this mixture?
(just wanted to know, i know nothing about this or nitrous but just want to clear this up.)
and can this setup run with e85, or is the octane rating too high for stock internals?

I'm going to try here before I create a new thread.

I have a question on nozzle placement. I am running a Spearco TMIC and speed density. I have my IAT mounted in the lower end tank right before the TB. I've read that you should install the nozzle in a similar location. I could mount it next to the IAT or on the upper side of the end tank. But either way I am going to spraying onto the IAT - that can't be good not only for liquid on the sensor but also messing with temp readings.

My next option is install the nozzle in the silicon coupler between the IC and the throttle body. That would be about 2-3 inches after the IAT.

Edit: started a new thread so others could get the same info on a search.

Bump Question:

I understand that the safest way of tuning methanol is by having it go with your injector duty cycle. I have a question for when you are going up hills and not going in boost but when your duty cycle is high. Would that cause the motor to flood?

I think that is what's happening to mine, causing the AFR's to go wacky and cause misfires.

Can someone please chime in.

At what IDC is your system spraying? If you have the threshold set high enough you should always be in boost when the meth kicks in.

IDC is directly related to "fuel flow vs load", regardless of 160mph with a head wind or going uphill at 40mph towing a heavy load, it demands the same IDC. Inversely, you can cruise at 160mph downhill with a tail wind or free-wheeling down hill. The idc will be low and wmi will not be triggered. If the system reads the IDC accurately.

I have hfs3. I did not tune it so I don't know the details of the idc.

If you are not tuning the system, reduce the injectant to 10-15% of fuel flow. I believe you are injecting too much beyond the engine management's ability to trim fuel.

If you know what nozzles you have installed and the gain you can estimate it. Or you can measure it by forcing 100% flow and measuring the output. From that you can calculate what ratio of water/meth:Fuel % you are injecting.

For the actual % meth you where tuned for you would have to ask the tuner or previous owner or whoever fills the meth tank if it isn't you.

Glad to see this thread is still providing answers to people years after I wrote it. I am unfortunately out of the "tuning" game now...at least for a few years. I will probably pick up a BRZ sometime, but for now done with upgrading my cars. But thanks to everyone for continuing to breath life into this.

Impreza GC8 Thanks for the info

I know it's an old thread but just wanted to say Big thanks to DP and Davenow for the informative thread. It took a few days but just finished reading the whole thread. It provided great info and helped me make an informed decision. I have a 93impreza with an ej20g and a "550" rob tune with apexi intake, wrapped headers and up pipe, invidia bell mouth dp, 3"exhaust, walboro 255, 06sti coils and injectors. After many tweeks, found that the custom intercooler diffuser and the turbo blanket have helped the most to deter the flashing knock light up high but still it comes on, albeit sporadically, at full boost. I have decided to go 100% water injection based on the read. From the calculators I saw here the equation for 100% water went .5-1cc x bhp = 170-340cc x 340 estimated hp at crank or 5-15% water to fuel ratio= 105-315cc water to 2100cc total fuel available thru injectors. I'm thinking a pressure compensated 220cc's of water would put me right in the middle of that range. Would these be correct calculations?
Thanks in advanced for any and all help.
