I have one of those pedal commanders on mine and it really makes it feel better - like it actually has the 278hp it claims to have.

If there's no loan then it doesn't matter. Just insure it in your name. Name on title is irrelevant.

My Land Cruiser feels every bit like 5,425 lbs being pushed by 265 hp.

At least the V8 is sonorous around 3k rpm! It also still is the quietest vehicle I’ve been on wrt road noise, bar none. Wind noise reflects that it’s a brick.

I second this. I have them on both my Tundra and my 4R.

Best $300 I’ve ever spent in terms of actual every day driving improvement.

I sold it to my parents 20 months ago when we bought our Model 3 and kept my wife's '17 Highlander. Now fast forward and Covid has happened and I want something that has actual off-road capability to use for family adventures and camping. My parents want something that has some actual safety packages as they are older and my Dads sight is not as great as once was. So we are going to trade our highlander for the 4Runner plus some cash (11-12k).

Advantage is that this gets me what I want, e.g. family adventure mobile and does it cheaply and will give us something that should have very low depreciation until the right EV or PHEV truck or SUV comes along. Also lets us payoff debt as we are aggressively trying to do just that. 4runner in question has 56k on it, in good condition, etc. I have a roof top tent my father in law gave us too. The made in Japan and well designed 4Runner just feels better put together and more solid than the Highlander. Highlander has a much better drivetrain though and is way more refined. We have the Model 3 for refined though and for city and commuting use.

I think I want to buy a rack and awning right away. Rack will allow tent mount which is a old Magiolina. Might buy a electric fridge/freezer chest. Would like to buy suspension and armor and bumpers but that is not going to be immediate.
Sounds like a win/win for all parties. Easy decision.

It was the most “I’ll buy it and eBay it if it’s not worth it” purchase I’ve ever made but once it was on there it’s never coming off until I sell the truck.

Makes sense now that I consider it. Never have been in this position where it was relevant before.

4Runner is actually pretty quiet too. I think BOF architecture just naturally isolates from NVH and LC and to a lesser degree 4Runner are built well with high consideration to detail.

See above. Not a big risk at $270 and overwhelming it sounds like it fixes throttle position mapping.

Pretty sure this is the but. If something happens it is possible another party may try to sue the registered owner if you don't have enough assets or they think your folks have more, etc. Probably a far fetched scenario but it is the reason why my dad transfered the title to my name when he gave me a car decades ago.

Yeah a significant gotcha. I started to think about the ramifications and ran it by my parents. Likely we'll just transfer title and eat the tax hit. We live in an unincorporated area so tax rate is only 4.5%. We do have an umbrella policy for just the reason you mentioned, among others.

Solution:

https://www.etags.com/blog/title-transfer/colorado/

CN: Write "gift" in purchase price section for both titles, and come with documentation proving your relationship.

Always a shock when I turn it off and feel what both rigs were like with stock throttle mapping.

Can’t recommend enough for all Toyota truck owners.

I don't know what it is, but everyone I've ever seen that had the Pedal Commander on a gas powered vehicle loved it, and everyone with a diesel engine(myself included) absolutely thought it was a waste of money. I put one on my Colorado diesel and it didn't do a thing to fix the "tennis ball under the accelerator" feel. I could feel the difference in the throttle sensitivity, but nothing for the initial resistance. Sold it for a loss.

I've done this when my dad gave me a vehicle he didn't want anymore. The last name on the title matching the one on my license was enough for them.

Maybe not but you can still greatly undervalue the vehicle for the purpose of registration.

$1.00

Took the 4runner out this weekend with some guys from work and did Bill Moore Lake trail and then camped up there. Was real fun to finally do some moderate off roadingfirst time in 4LO for >24hrs and actually needing the multi-terrain select stuff to work my way up something.

Also first time not seeing a Subaru in CO for a whole day.

Nice pics, chicken! I did some 4lo this weekend, too. The Mrs and I explored a bit of Manistee national Forest in Michigan on our way to meet up with some college friends for social distance camping. I put about a million pinstripes on it going through some narrow two track, so now that it's scratched up I can stop worrying about every little thing I find in the paint. The tires exceeded my expectations. In some peanut butter mud with roots to roll over they slipped very little before gripping. Got stuck once in about 8" of that stuff and had to get a rolling start and goose it pretty good to get out, but only took 3 tries.

I realize I didn’t take a single pic of the hard parts of the trail or even the rig itself on a trail. Oh well.

Nice.

I have my 4Runner back now. Just have used it for gravel roads to hiking so far. Pedal Commander was definitely worth it.

What mods do you have Chicken? I see sliders, winch and bumper at least.

Default OT BroYota Truck Thread

Slider, bumper with winch, some lighting stuff. Ko2’s in stock size. I’m not clear if I have a lift over a stick 4runner or not with the pro but the suspension is the bilstein one.

I don’t really want a lift unless I go nuts on something real nice like Ikon.

If I do a lot more like what I did this weekend I need full skids I had a lot of touches underneath from friendly rocks. Some of the real rocky spots with loose softball-basketball sized rocks it was just unavoidable.

I am somewhat considering an onboard compressor, it would be very nice and I would potentially when I do that upgrade my wiring setup under the hood to have one of the fuse block things for a bit of a cleaner setup.

Edit- I’ve got a pedal commander too

TRD Pro has a pretty nice suspension from the factory. I'm somewhat considering upgrading my suspension to what you have or just a bit better. 2012 Trail Edition stock setup KDSS is what I've got. I don't want a lift either but 1" in the front would level things on mine. Not sure if TRD Pro has more than stock or not.

The pinstripes on my Land Cruiser bugged me, so I stopped running narrow trails like Argentine Pass.
