I had a bracket made up for the other end but it interfered with the mustache bar. It's just hanging in space for now but it's still pretty rigid. I might just call it good and skip making a bracket on that end. The soft line between the tank and hard lines are only going to be about ten inches.

My '71 Super Beetle has the 009 too.

Setting the timing on it was the first time I'd ever used a timing light.

It's been ages but I remember the 009 was one of the first things I did when I got my '68. And the Weber carb.
Still have my Craftsman timing light in the toolbox, lots of dust on it though.

I was going to leave the ends flopping but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was worried that if there was too much vibration the SS lines might end up cracking.

I had made a box/bracket for mounting the fuel filter for where the lines ended. That didn't work out and I ended up mounting the filter on the tank. So I just reused/modified the bracket to mount bulkhead connectors to terminate the fuel lines.

Added flap with holes for bulkhead connectors.

Dry fit. It still needs to be re-primed and painted.

Fuel lines in the tunnel. Pretty good fit if I do say so myself.

With the fuel lines buttoned up. I just need to do a little more work and I can mount the tank. But I think I'm going to switch gear and move forward with working on chassis wiring.

The 240Z OEM wiring is pretty basic. In fact the entire thing is mostly chassis wiring. Most of the switching goes through the steering column. There are not really any relays and the switches in the column carry the entire current load. All of the current for all the lighting goes through there. I'm changing that.

I'm using a relay board (Leash Electronics). It has inputs for and outputs to drive all the chassis lighting. There are inputs for headlights/blinkers/brakes/reverse (hot activated relays). This will remove all the loading from the column switches. I'll also be using the relay boards to drive an ECU/injector power/ignition power/fuel pumps/fans/wipers.

I made the base plate and cover a while back. Just test fitting the boards and figuring out where the pigtails with input/output connectors need to route.

My buddy and I finally debuted our little project. It's due at it's first race weekend in one week.

1600cc Ford Kent engine. Pushrods with a "high" RPM cam.

I built the engine up. My first ever. We've got some minor issues like a pinhole leak in the radiator and the front left caliper that's binding. Fortunately, we've been building our spares alongside all the other parts, so I already have another caliper to throw on, just bagged and waiting. The only spare we don't have currently is the motor. I may be building another one this winter. The plan is to get the car fully built, logged (we've been doing paperwork for nearly every part we've rebuilt), tuned in, and then sell it off as competition ready. My buddy used to sell (factory dealer) and provide trackside support for Sports Renaults (Spec Racer Fords) and used to race this Tiga back before that. I'm pretty much just investing time wrenching and in return we're going to split some weekends up so that I get to do some test days and race days.

We've updated the Tiga with the newer full bodywork and wider track of the later ('79, '80? cars). When it's all done (this Fall?) it should look like a bright red (with gray frame and black suspension) version of this:

Wow, this is super cool, are you going to run it with SVRA? These non-wing open wheel cars are the purist driving experience, so much fun. Have fun with it, but don't get hooked.

Nah. We've got a small group of club racers in vintage FFords out here running slicks like the car did back in the day. We can get loads of takeoffs for pretty cheap. SVRA guys are running expensive Avons. We may run an event here or there if we find a cheap set of used Avons, but it's not our goal. Plus, there are some funky contact/passing rules and a lot of drama with the SVRA guys from what we hear.

Years ago a group of us trying to start a series called OVR, outlaw vintage racing. It has a good set of rules but allows some back dating and updates to make the cars a little bit more fun, and the competition a little bit more relaxed and not so much concourse like the way that SVRA and HSVR and similar series have become.

I'm holding off on the ZX Ute until I get some other stuff sorted. In the mean time I'm going for this look.

Maybe an ozone machine to help with the Vegas smell? Since you've got time you could probably use some Amazon special and let it run for a week or two.

That's my plan. I'm going to remove the rear seats and the carpet anyway. I would like to save the front seats with the ozone machine but if not I'll probably get suspension seats like the Mudstang had.

Yesterday I bought some winter tires (ghetto rally tires) and removed all the studs. They are a little larger than I would have liked and will require some gentle massaging with a BFH to fit. Probably spacers as well, maybe flares.

I kinda like the steelies but they are 5 lug, so I'll be having the tires swapped onto the stock 5-stars. I've been keeping my eye out for some cheap Sparco Terras or other rally-looking wheels.

Browsing Instagram, I noticed a fellow Evo 5 post up a steering rack. I messaged the guy about it (he's in Poland) and he said it's from a company there in Poland called PRS Quick Steering Rack (@PRSqstr). They specialize in Subies but have a LHD rack for Evo 4-6s that's 1.8 turns lock to lock. My current rack is an atrocious 3.2. It took some back and forth on FB but I just PayPal'd the money into the void and hope this comes out the other side.

It's way cheaper and easier than the alternative of having a guy in New Zealand custom fab a front subframe that then requires Evo 9 transfer case and suspension arms/knuckles. What a mess this car is under the skin. But I'm determined to get it back to its former glory. Nothing lighting money on fire can't fix.

I also ordered an Invidia O2 housing from STM to replace this stupid external dump the prior owner installed. Picked up some black radiator hoses and a few gaskets to refresh.

Who knows when this stuff will get here but I'm in no rush. My inspection sticker expires at the end of July but I have nowhere to go. Guess I'll have to run the gauntlet to the shop in August or whenever they can take me in for a big engine maintenance overhaul.

The advice "if you're too deep in a hole, quit digging" does not apply to cars says the guy that spent $800 to put rear disk brakes on a 21 YO truck.
