Aaaannnnddd... The issue is that Gigabyte sucks. Apparently it's an undocumented feature! They scramble the contents of their CMOS every now and then so you have to pull the CMOS battery, unplug the computer, let it sit for a couple minutes and put the battery back in. This strangely isn't in any of their marketing materials. Discovered it in a forum. Sure enough, it starts now. ****ers. Now I get to ****ing setup the god damned BIOS again.

Waiting always nets a better deal but I don't wanna put it off too far, my kid may just die if I tell him to wait and shelling out twice isn't attractive either. I appreciate the input! |

I think this is the die shrink, as well as a process shrink, I'm planning on a decent jump. Price brackets shouldn't jump up either.
Especially with an extra cycle to integrate whatever tensor and RT cores are. Not likely a 9-10 series size jump but, better than 10-20? Quote:
Not going to be fun doing that over the lifetime. Hopefully they can fix it in an update? Last edited by parker; 07-09-2020 at 04:26 PM. |

Yeah, it's back up now. I discovered this issue in their forums. It's not even platform or chipset dependent. It's a gigabyte issue. The CMOS gets screwed up so you have to remove the battery and wait for the capacitors to drain.

There's already supposed leaks of 3070 and 3070ti at the 4-500 price point matching (beating?) The 2080ti with RTX on. There's a potential dedicated RTX processing unit or something. It'll definitely be a better value than any RTX cards available now. |

in all honesty i've had only one issue with Gigabyte over the years. it was on an ancient Z77 build, before usb3.0 was spec'd out. system ran fine till i tried to run an Oculus Rift. system ran fine til i had the rift running and then plugged in my wheel/pedals. it completely killed all usb comms. no mouse, no keyboard, no nothing. that box was built circa '12 and is still running, doing network monitoring et al. |

After some debate I think I will do a little digging to see what card would be a nice upgrade to my 2016 PC and buy something in that range to get the new PC by until the new GTX cards drop. It won't feel as much like a waste of money being as the card will be an upgrade for the hand-me-down PC, my kid will be happy for an 'upgrade'.
Thanks for the heads up. Anyone have a card laying around that would be an upgrade over an R9 390 on an Asus Z97a MB with a 4790k cpu? |

And this isn't a usb voltage issue? My rift S was funny till I put it on a powered USB hub and that resolved things.. after reboot it was never coming active on its own and I was stuck doing the unplug/plug dance. |

If you have a z97 and a 4790k, overclock and just buy a new GPU when the new ones drop. IMO you've made it this far . I'm holding out until DDR5.

We will eventually upgrade the z97 rig but it does everything he wants right now between Snowrunner, No Man's Sky, HotS, Minecraft, Civilization and similar titles. |

Sub $300 is a solid deal on a 1080. I paid around that for a B stock 1070 from EVGA a while back.

My computer problems all seem tame in comparison.
