Default Timing Belt Choices?

So, getting ready to order a fresh timing belt and pulleys for the new engine that I'm putting together. Rev limit is going to eventually be 8,300 with wtq and whp in the high 400's to low 500's. I was kind of debating the kevlar belts from HKS and STi, but then while thinking about it I realized the EJ207 comes with the regular timing belt and it goes to 8,200.

Has anyone actually found a power level or rpm level where an upgraded timing belt would make sense?

In years past I've been revving to 7,800 and had 425 whp/475 wtq with an OEM timing belt. I'm thinking of just sticking OEM again, but thought I'd ask.

What valve train are you using, cams, springs, belt tensioner, etc?

I'd opt for a reinforced belt due to that increased spring pressure and your target rev limit. I am pretty certain that most of the reinforced belt choices are manufactured by Gates Unitta and then branded in multiple ways (STI, HKS, GReddy, Tomei-USA, Gates Racing). Tomei-JPN is the only belt I cannot tell if a Gates Unitta. There could be others...
Personally I would opt for the STI belt ST130284S000 since it has the least amount of colored backing applied.

Gates blue should be fine. Belts are not that easy to rip unless installed incorrectly or old.

Is Gates actually good now? I've heard they sell China pulleys.

Belts are solid, id stay away from idlers and the tensioner and opt for OEM

Do not get the "Race" version. Stick with regular.
