Default Auto to manual swap

Since 9-2x's are becoming more rare I decided to get an 05 aero with auto trans and convert to 6 speed since I have everything to go in it. My current 9-2x is a manual and is being retired because of rust. I have questions out to iWire on this but it's been several days and they haven't responded.

Would the easiest option be to pull the full wiring harness from my manual 9-2x and swap it into the new one?

Electrical isn't my forte. I can read a wiring diagram fairly well but don't have any tools for measuring current. I have read some of the write ups in how to do this conversion and it seems the biggest issue in creating a DIY for other people is differences in wiring from one year to the next, so I know roughly what to look for but would question screwing it up constantly. Especially when it comes to abs and the nps.

Any advice would be appreciated. Or if there's anyone in the mid-Hudson Valley who knows how to do this. I'll get you plenty of your favorite beverage.

Yes. I've read through many of the posts on how people did it. And the few people who have tried to do write ups on how to do it almost immediately are contradicted by other people and I have no idea who to believe.

Not sure how much I can help but I'm currently working in the same thing with my 04 wrx. I did alot of research and chose to go the full wiring harness swap. There still may be some custom wiring though because the harness i got is for an 04 sti and my wrx being a premium, it has a sunroof and a couple other things that the sti didn't have that year. So I may have to find a way to get power to those type things. Other than that it should be a strait forward swap. I'll also being swapping to drive by wire while I'm at it so I needed basically everything for that as well. Here's a list of stuff I got for the swap. From all the research I did, this seems to be the "right way" to do it

04 sti bulkhead harness
04 sti engine harness
04 sti ecu
04 sti throttle body
04 sti drive by wire gas pedal
04 sti clutch/brake pedal assembly
04 sti brake pump module
07 sti transmission
07 sti r180 rear diff
07 sti axels
07 sti hubs/knuckes
07 sti drive shaft
07 sti brembos
07 sti transmission mount
04-07 sti linkage/bushings/center console trim and plate

This is a cookie cutter list of what you'll need to do it the right way. I know guys that have rewired the existing harness but I rather just get the sti one

I have everything for the swap. What I'm looking for is a more clear cut way of doing the wiring. But through all my research it seems as though there's multiple ways of getting around the wiring issues. You just have to choose the one you're most comfortable with.

I should be bolting the trans in tomorrow and diving into the wiring. Fingers crossed.

Nice man good luck, any chance you can let me know how it goes and if there's anything you have trouble with so I can better prepare? I've done alot of research but thats nothing compared to hands on experience actually doing it

And can I ask why you opted to not use the sti harness? Just curious

My car is a 16bit ECU based harness. There's no sense in switching harnesses to any 32bit based. I had looked into swapping all my stuff into an 04 STi chassis and, quite honestly, it's a lot of work. If I was going to swap harnesses I would've done it from a MT 02-05 WRX or 9-2x aero. This is more straight forward.

I don't think it's going to be hard to merge/re-pin connectors to make this work. It's just going to be time consuming because of differences in wire colors from the factory. I bought a wiring kit from iWire that has the correct connectors and several feet of wire. This will allow me to connect the VSS and re-pin from the auto harness. Reverse lights are pretty straight forward since they are a loop. ABS will be tricky. I think the speedo will be easier than it sounds. Trying to figure out if I want to bypass the NSS or wire it into the clutch pedal. Leaning toward the latter. If you're somewhere near the Poughkeepsie area, hit me up and I'll be glad to show you how I'm doing it.

Ok sounds good. And what's alot of work about swapping the sti harness? I'm not doubting you I just want to know for my knowledge

Since you're going full STi conversion w/ECU then it makes sense for you. I have no desire to go that route. I prefer DBC as the throttle response is better and easier for tuning. It's also just nice to know that when I give 20% throttle that's what I'm going to get. Are you getting an STi gauge cluster? There are some differences between WRX and STi that you'll have to address if you're keeping the WRX cluster.

Yeah I have an 04 sti cluster. Believe it or not that was the hardest part to find lol
