cool, tabulate how many failures over how many in production over "x" time period to calculate a legitimate likelihood of failure compared to the likelihood of any part and "get back to us"

until then, it's called surmising and is as useless as any personal opinion

Been there done that. There's even an old thread in here with a failure poll. We have an extensive album of customer failures too, RIGHT HERE.

So, you take that data. Plus, the feedback we've had from dealers, shops, and customers with failures. You look at the total production of WRX/STi models for each year. and you can extrapolate a best guess. Of course, it's not perfect because there are likely failures that DIY guys take care of themselves and aren't active on forums or other enthusiast media outlets, and shops/dealers that perform the repair without reporting the failure to us. All that said, my best guess on the failure rate is more than 1%, but likely not more than 2%.

SMH, obviously no point in getting into the whole statistics thing and what constitutes legitimate samples and data, but not even close man.
A poll on a forum is like a Yelp review, you have less than no idea how many have no issues making the data useless.
Plus, WRX and STI??? So you are saying subaru makes a bad pickup that fails at an insanely high rate and it's only used in WRX and STI's? No other models?
And talking to "shops and customers" is also meaningless data as there's no legitimate sample to make any results relevant.
(every shop has their whale tales btw)

This is like a guy who works at a tire shop saying, "omg, every tire on the road must be blowing out, every single person that came in today had a popped tire and half of them were Michelins. I saw one popped tire after the next all day."

Obviously pointless debate at this point, you will be sticking to your guns that this statement is legitimate. But statistically it just isn't. I get it, you sell pickups. You can't exactly market a pickup and not say the factory one is a huge problem.

Not bad info & yes my builder required an aftermarket oil pickup for the all forged engine. The OEM pickup left on the original long block.

How does this relate to increased cooling in the most sever driving conditions?

Second, third, and fourth, that Mishi is garabage. Way way back I purchased one of their coolant expansion tanks for racecar bling. 2-3 months later a weld failed at one of the mounting brackets and was leaking coolant. Was sent a replacement per warranty, that one failed at the same place, was sent another and that one failed as well, so I put the stocker back on. The Mishi was mounted in OEM location, no mods or alterations, just crappy welds everytime.

A bit later down the road, having learned nothing, I picked up one of thier power steering resi's, again for racecar bling. One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. Went to an open track day, and what I believe was due to the lack of any baffleing in the mishi res, my power steering fluid became heavily aerated and the PS would cut in and out. A very terrifying experience when entering a corner at high speed.

The rest of this is speculation and a bit concerning, but take it for what's it's worth. A couple weeks later, while on a cruise with a car club I was in, I was in a single car rollover accident and totalled my STi. I had been driving at the back of the group all day, according to the other folks on the cruise. I mention this because I have no memory of the accident, or the entire day for that matter, and noone on the cruise witnessed the accident. Due to a sever concusion, along with my other injuries, my first memory was waking up in the hospital and telling my friends I had crahsed my Mtn. bike, repeatedly, after they had already told me I just lost my baby.

I was in a left hand curve with the uphill side of the mtn. on my right, down off the edge on my left. I apparently lost control, no memory, and my car went up the side of the mtn. before corkscrewing back down to the highway where it came to a rest on its side with my arm pinned between the vehicle and road.

Again, according to the rest of the crew, I had been in the back of the pack all day and was not pushing it or being dumb. I had also owned my STi since new for over 13 years, have numerous track days under my belt, and have logged countless miles of mtn. and canyon driving. I know my limits, and I know not to push it on public roads any where near where I would on an open track. The only things we could come up with were a tire failure, or the power steering had cut out and in. After getting the car back from salvage and inspecting the tires and finding no eveidence of a cut or blown tire my mind tells me it was the PS. Driver error can never be ruled out however. I have no science or data, just personal experience with mishi's craptastic rebranded parts.

I'm a fan of a good Koyo or CSF aluminum rad. I run a CSF/Supermiata radiator on my boosted Miata and it works fantastic.

Make sure all plastic panels are in place. Ducting is a huge factor when it comes to properly keeping a car cooled, especially a turbo car. I would suggest sealing surfaces around your radiator if you want to maximize cooling. I did this on my Miata and can provide photos if you're interested.

Luckily with a TMIC it makes it a bit easier to work around.

The only gap is at the bottom to allow water out & very thin.

Same offer as earlier in this thread.. If you are willing to put your $$ up, I will escrow that amount, try what you suggest if it is better then release the funds.. if not will box it for pick up.. being right is priceless. btw will have to be this coming summer.

To the manufactures, IF you care to take the "Pepsi Challenge"? Your radiator against the one I have..
I will write a review with the history

Otherwise I will make other changes (some suggested here) to keep heat out of the engine compartment.

Noone is gunna give you free **** to "test" with a promise to pay later if it's good. You've been given recommendations, put YOUR money into something and then give a a review.

Both caps are brand new so it is not the cap.

What have others found that works?

Sorry but without ACTUAL temperature gauge readings from either your Accessport or data logging what are you trying to fix? Needle position on the stock temperature gauge? Post some numbers here.

I did do that above from the AP however when driving very challenging roads I just judge the danger to the new engine from the idiot gauge..

The switch from Prestone to Subaru OEM coolant was about 6 to 7 degrees lower the same afternoon, same route. Also noted on the gauge. Also with Prestone the AC was shut off by the ECU.

I posted actual fact that I encountered. Now looking for more facts

I'll have to check on this. They've used the dual caps since the 90's and now that EJs are phased out they revise it? Makes little sense, but who knows.

FYI here is the FSM cap descriptions...

Over pressure release and when cooling down, if a vacuum is created, moving coolant into the system from the surge tank. Fairly standard on cars from the 60s on.

I do use a sealed funnel to 'burp' the system however should be unnecessary under normal condition as the air left in the cooling system should migrate to the highest point, then be forced out into the surge tank, coolant replacing the air when cooling down. I also check for air after a few days & weeks.

The Subaru parts guys I work with are very good, was able to change every piece of rubber hose etc when the new forged motor went in.. On the 110+ degree days out here was very happy I spent the money on all the hoses.

Let me know what you find.. I see other round caps but not sure of the correct part number for my app.
