2012 STI Build - Looking for tips and suggestions
Greetings,
I am relatively new to the Subaru scene, I've had my 2012 STI for just a little over 2 years now. When I got the car, I immediately did the most Subaru thing & put a full turbo-back exhaust on & the COBB SF cold air intake. Until recently, I've done a fair amount of overboosting due to the catless downpipe & have hit 102% Injection Duty Cycle & about 27 PSI on a stock block and pump gas. I know, extremely bad. Whatcha gonna do about it, it's already too late. Anyways, I wanted to get my car into a healthier state, so I went ahead and ordered a bunch of parts and reached out to a local tuner & got the sign off on all the parts. The only thing is, I got 2 months to install all the parts & I do NOT know anything about engine modifications, or any of the parts I will be installing. So I am turning to the Subaru community to give me pointers, things to look out for, if I run into something, some good tips and tricks to get a grasp of what's really gonna happen. My current modlist that I ordered;
Ultimately looking for the best routes of doing the modifications. I am open to any suggestions, please anything is helpful! I have some mechanical knowledge, but I'm really looking to learn on this build. Thank you!

CAVEAT: I'm not beating you up, I'm bringing some realization in what you want to do.
First thing you have to decide BEFORE you start buying anything is: - What are your plans for your car? - You haven't mentioned this yet and is critical to your mod path. Now, some questions: 1. PTP Turbo Blanket. - Why? Not needed 2. IAG Street Series Air Oil Separator - Why? Are you getting a lot of blow-by? If not, not needed. 3. Aeromotive A1000 Adjustable Fuel Regulator - Why? Not needed 4. COBB Flex Fuel Package - Why? Are you going to run E85? 5. GrimmSpeed 38mm V-Band EWG Uppipe Kit - Why? Are you now running or plan to use an external wastegate? - Why? Even though people use them on nothing more than just a Daily Driver, they have no purpose on a Daily, they are very loud and obnoxious. Just because you read on NASIOC or other board that someone claims that you " HAVE TO HAVE " this, that or the other thing is usually nothing but a bunch of BS just to make themselves feel important with what they did. You seem to be taking on a lot for someone who admittedly doesn't have any knowledge for what you are attempting. Nothing wrong with wanting to do your own modifications but you have also put a short time limit on your mod activities. Something you can do to help learn is watch a LOT of videos on YouTube on these types of modifications and read the installation instructions. |

Skip the Cobb EBCS and go with a Company23 anti-surge boost controller, you'll have no wastegate flutter

Wastegate flutter isn't harmful or anything, why would you want to spend an extra $100 to remove it? It's also probably a little bit different to tune so I would leave the decision about what boost controller to buy up to his tuner.

Great list of mods. Nothing wrong with making your fueling and boost more efficient. These modifications will require you to pull your intake manifold off which is a daunting task. I've done a good amount of work on my own cars, however I was not up to the task of doing my tgv deletes. Obviously the fuel system install is easier with the manifold removed. I would suggest upgrading your turbo inlet while doing the tgv deletes and fuel system upgrades. Injector dynamics 1050x is a great solution to your injector duty cycle since you need a tune anyway. Turbo blankets help reduce engine bay temperatures which is always a good thing. The coolant mods you picked are good and obviously draining the coolant to install the radiator makes the getadom mod less messy to install. The uppipe you picked is great. If it isn't ceramic coated get it done at a local shop. You can block off the EWG if it isn't needed in your current build and then add it later if you upgrade the turbo. I'm sorry but anyone who says you don't need an AoS on a turbo car is just being a putz. Is it the end all most important mod no is it something everyone should have to increase longevity, absolutely. All fuel has ethanol at this point and e85 is an amazing boost fuel and allows you to push the car safely to higher horsepower it also makes your car smell like popcorn when you drive like a crazy person. I am not sure if you have the fuel pressure sensor from Cobb but it's a great safety feature to add in to your current fuel setup.

Now, if he WANTS an AOS for whatever reason it's up to him. Would be nice if the OP responds to why he thinks he wants all the things he listed. Last edited by Samurai Jack; 05-27-2020 at 09:47 AM. |
