Default [SOLVED] Looking for help with stripped motor mount threads

Hi everyone,

Today I removed the old worn motor mounts on my WRX swapped 97 Outback Sport so I could install some Perrin mounts. Driver side went fine. Passenger side did not. I noticed after removal that both bolts going from the mount to the block have metal shavings along them. I tried tightening them by hand after clearing them out and could only get them finger tight, anything beyond that and they just spin.

So, it looks like the threads in the block are stripped. I'm looking for advice on how to go forward. Helicoil? Tap? I have no experience with either and am afraid of making a bad situation worse. The car is on up on a lift, transmission removed for another job, and the engine is on a hoist.

I'm in Duvall, WA if any locals want to make a friend, earn some major karma, and free food by helping out an idiot in need.

Thanks!

-Matt

If you were closer, I'd come help in person, but seeing as you're way the **** out in Duvall... I'd recommend just drilling and tapping for a larger bolt. Aluminum is pretty easy to drill/tap, just be careful not to drill deeper than the original depth. Metric taps can be found on Amazon for a reasonable price, and just use the correctly sized drill bit for the tap you go with.

Thanks RedMonkey999. I took the HeliCoil route and got it fixed.

For future reference in case anyone needs it
HeliCoil 5543-10
M10x1.25 tap
13/32 drill bit
