Default Purchased my SRT-4 3 days ago. My initial reviews.

Hey whats up guys!?

I purchased what I think was the first SRT4 on the market. I purchased it 3 days ago here in the Ft.lauderdale area.

I am posting it so you guys know what you will have to contend against. I am not going to be biased just cause I own one and I am not looking for flames. If I did I will just lay down the law with my MKIV Supra. I am not really a chrystler guy, I am a toyota guy.

Anyways I must say I am very, very impressed with the SRT-4. Lets just say I broke it in the first day the hard way. The car pulls very strong. Here in FL it boosts to 11psi. IM sure it will boost higher up north due to the cold temperature.

It breaks loose in 1st gear with out dumping the clutch. There is very little torque steer when you punch it, though I am sure when your putting down some serious HP it might become an issue.

The exaust sounds very sweeet. Those of you with a downpipe and catback experience a nice rumble and back fire type sound. The srt4 has a nicer rumble than a rex with a DP and an HKS Catback for sure. Only when you rev it but not when your hammering it on the road. But it does sound nice on idle and you can tell right away why they dropped the Neon name on it. The system has no muffler, it only has two resonators.

The FMIC is not that tall but its nice and thick. I was very impressed with the design of the intake manifold. It reminds me of the JUN intake manifold on the supra being that it tappers down as the air goes towards the end of the manifold.

It has nice 17" rims with expensive michelin Pilot tires. The breaking action is very good. I handling is very good but the ass site high up, so I am sure it will make a huge difference once its dropped.

They really did there homework when they designed the hood. The front scoop serves a nice purpose. Under the hood you will see two 4" x4" holes that dump air on top of the intake manifold. Towards the end of the hood you see to large 10" x 8" (Approx) holes that dump air on top of the turbo. Also there is a cavity in the hood that terminates above the intake. Which if you drill a nice size 4" hole with a holesaw, will give you a nice cold air intake setup. It dumps right over the airbox. So once you install a K&N cone, the next upgrade is to cut your hood.

Chystler trannys suck by far from what I have seen. The break overnight. The tranny on the srt4 is made by getrac(5speed fwd) tranny just like my supra(6spd) and the c5 corvette. So I am sure the reliability should not be an issue. I find the shifting a little notchier than the REX but it has a shorter throw. I beleive it has a short shifter stock from the dealer.

I managed to race it today too.

On my way to work today, I saw a 2gen Eclipse GS-T (FWD). I heard his HKS SSBOV go off. He also had a FMIC .

He punched it when he was behind me and then as he passed me I punched it. He only managed to get 2 car lenghts ahead of me . We hit traffic afterwards so I do not know if I would have caught up to him or not. I still find it hard to beleive that he did not pull hard on me. He was an older guy and looked like he knew how to drive the car. Maybe he did not have the boost turned up? He had also 2 gauges on his piller and I noticed a stock catback on.

From what the dealer told me, dodge has a stage 3 that they are working on a stage 3 kit that will give you 300hp. I have drive a couple of Rex before and I strongly beleive that a stock SRT-4 will easily beat a stock REX from 2 gear up.

I am not to familiar with domestics as I am imports. My supra has over 160,000 miles and it still puts out over 400hp with no problems and reliabiltiy is not an issue. With the chrystler I am not sure.

If any of you local REX guys want to come by and drive my srt4 for you self to try it out, your more than welcome too. Just a long as it's not your whole club.

Sorry i had to take the pics off. My server got overloaded with to many hits.

I would agree with that. Too bad you're beating on it already.

How were you able to take a picture of it? I heard that it moves so fast even when parked that taking a picture of it requires time travel..

enjoy the ride man..

I like it. I bet your car payment is a lot less than mine too. But I just got hit with about 5" of snow last night here in Ohio, so the AWD suits my driving needs more. I can't wait to see a few SRT-4's on the street around here. Can you hear the turbo spooling and the bov very well? Thanks for the overview, it's good to hear you like it.

i was concidering an SVT Focus or Protege 5 as my next car till this week. Here in WV, we've been hit with about 7 inches of snow in 4 days. And tuesday was pleasent enough for there to have been 30 auto accidents in 2 hours in morgantown. My suby was still trucking, so it will be a suby for me the next time around, lol..

I would hope it does, 1) it has a 2.4 litre engine 2) it has a 16g turbo but I strongly doubt it would take a REX if it came with a 2.4 and 16g, but I'd like to see you catch me when its raining

I screwed up with the wieght. 1750 was in Kilos and that was the max gross vehicle weight meaning the most the car can handle when fully loaded.

Yes I have driven the car hard. 70,000 miles 7 year warrenty so its all good. I got it with 30miles on it so I know the sales people got on it already, i know i would have. Its a company car and I will be developing a full exhaust system for it next week. The car was purchased for R&D purpose which is why I don't mind getting on it.

AWD is better than fwd for sure if your in teh snow. No snow down here in FL though. FWD does perform better than RWD though. And you also save fuel. 30mpg highway rating.

The turbo is a mitsubishi TD04-16G which is an upgrade that the eclipse guys use. Its a nice size turbo, bigger than the REX turbo if I recall, the only draw back from it is that it will be hard to upgrade. For a REX all you ahve to do is get a different uppipe made or use a greddy/jun adapter (assuming yoru not getting a vf type turbo). ON the SRT, the turbine housing is actualy part of the manifold! The only good thing about it though is that I can see the upgrades for it being alot cheaper being that you will only need a cartridge. I beleive the wastegate is also integrated into the manifold. IM yet to take off the heat shield.

I don't hear the turbo spool and I have not really looked out for the BOV sound. I have to look for it first. You don't really have any induction type sound to it because the stock setup is made to be silent on stock vehicles.

Buddy im not putting down your car. I have much respect for the rex. I have personaly been in one in the rain on a looping exit ramp!!! The damn this has glue for tires! It hardley broke loose and I had to change my draws afterwards. I was doing 60mph when I hit a large lake size puddle on the right side of the car and it barly budged to the right. And no one would love to be hammering one up in the snow right now more than me. Im only giving you my first impressions of the car because I know most of the members here would like to hear it from an actual person and not from a magazine being that they compare it to the rex.

If you read closely, we where talking about snow. I have lived in NY for most of my life and I can tell you with years of experience of driving in the snow that a FWD vehicle will out perform a RWD vehicle in the snow by a long shot. I have owned a conquest in NY, and my awsome handling mkiv supra in NY and I can tell you that my corrola will lay the smack down on them both.

can everyone stop with the "lets see if he can catch me in a monsoon!!" comparisons. driving in the rain/snow is one thing, but racing in those conditions is another.

we both know that will never stop, it makes them feel better about their purchase. and i agree it's the most retarded defense ever.

Yup...even the Z06 does. 400+ HP and can get 30+ mpg cruising at 80MPH

Damn, Z06's :P
