2015+ Wrx Depo Racing Tmic
After a long wait and playing cat and mouse withe Fedex, I finally received and installed the Depo Racing TMIC! The thing is huge!
Installation was super easy, and the price was even better. I will update everyone with logs and results from driving/tuning session! Tim has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Excellent customer service!

It looks good. I know almost all aftermarket parts on the WRX require a tune but do you think if I installed this prior to getting tuned, it would be ok to drive for a few days/on the way to get tuned?

Great. I'm excited to see logs. I'm in between the CNT one and this one. From another thread, it looks like the CNT only performs marginally better than stock. If this one performs better than the CNT, I'm ordering it asap.

Weeeell, I ordered it, even without any reviews or feedback. It's discounted for cyber monday and has free shipping. Worth a try. I'll get some logs after I get it installed and my protune adjusted.

I installed it today and then blew the charge pipe off while dataloging. I searched around for t-bolt clamps but I couldn't fine any in the store, I'll have to order some before I can test again.
It seems to fit well and the inlet and outlet does have a small beaded lip but I may have to adjust it further. |

My car has been suffering from a massive boost leak. I tracked one of them down to the gasket on the charge pipe and went ahead and replaced it, but there is still a leak somewhere. I'm pulling the under tray today to examine the turbo inlet, and the intake from underneath. I'll update you all. Once the leak is fixed it will be dialed in. Everything went on the back burner because of finals but those are done now so this will get my attention.

Ok, as I mentioned last on the first datalog pull, my charge pipe blew off. I will be replacing the charge pipe and t-body inlet as soon as I can because those damn stock rubber inserts suck. The one on the charge pipe side was all crooked underneath... and the stock worm gear clamps have to be ratcheted down tight instead of just screwed tight. Then I got sick and we had bad weather but...
Anyway, I took a datalog today, without blowing a charge pipe off. I sent a datalog to my tuner for him to adjust for the added volume. Hopefully he can give me some insight on how it looks as far as pressure drop goes. Now with the datalog, unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'm impressed all that much. A 3rd gear, ~2700-~6100 RPM pull showed about 20 degrees above ambient temp on the Depo Racing TMIC. The amb temp was about 45 degrees. (I'm comparing Intake Temp to Intake Temp Manifold) So, ~65 at the top of the pull. Oddly enough, the pull with the Depo Racing TMIC, compared to stock, showed about 1 PSI increase... I'm not sure what that means, wouldn't it be lower (same map, no adjustment) due to volume increase? Now my VDyno (for what it's worth) showed 8 hp increase up top and ~1 tq increase, which is negligible of course over the same tune (adjusted for TMIC) in the same gear, same weight, and within 5 degrees of ambient temp of each other. Please ask the right questions if I haven't addressed everything that would be important in testing this TMIC. Disclaimer: I am not a tuner and although I know what to look out for when WOT, my interpretation of the data may be off. I will also add the testing of the Depo Racing TMIC didn't include the stock engine cover and shroud... so maybe after I modify it, it would help with air flow?

Quote:
It's not volume that changes the pressure, it's having less pressure drop due to less internal resistance. In general, intercoolers have to find a balance between cooling and flowing. If the Depo is showing 1psi more with all conditions being the same, that typically would mean it has less pressure drop than the stock cooler. You can see this better by logging and comparing wastegate duty cycle. |

It's a great start w info, be interesting to know your tuners thoughts of the product. I am trying to understand tmic so this is also a learning thread for me. I am planning to buy tmic soon and due to price this unit leaves some funds available that may be directed towards another item, however that may not be the best route to take based on further findings you post. Are you relatively happy with performance so far of the combined mods?
Currently this is one of three I am considering and it is the cheapest, could it be "best bang for the buck" ? I look forward to hearing any other feedback that comes forth... Last edited by Cisco Kidd; 12-17-2016 at 08:12 PM. |

Thanks guys for the updates! A tmic is my last upgrade and I'm trying to make my decision on it. If it performs well but only gets a few hp/tq less then the others that cost more then double the price, I know what I'll choose.
