Default 09 wrx with grimmspeed tmic, where to put iat sensor?

While I'm switching to e85 I'm converting to SD and cannot find anywhere to put an iat sensor without getting someone to weld a bung in my tmic, I've searched for hours and came up empty. Are there any "bolt on" options before I take my intercooler to a welder?

Default Ask your tuner

Any tuner who has been around the block will probably have experience with this. Ask them the best/easiest way they know of to do this.

Yea... He didn't really have a great answer for me other than welding my tmic, I guess I have an odd combo to run SD with. I'm willing to do it but only if there isn't a less intrusive way.

Welding a bung into the outlet side of the TMIC is the standard way to do it. Why does that bother you? It's a reliable place to get a temp reading. The other spot some people put a bung is in the IM itself.

Here's where we put ours, but anywhere in this general vicinity should be fine. IIRC the GS unit uses very thick-walled sand cast end tanks. Since you're likely using a small 1/8NPT or 1/9PT (or smaller) IAT sensor, the thick wall of the sand casting should be fine. 3/16" (.1875) is adequate for installing functional NPT threads for this application. If you drill a hole and it's not thick enough, you're no worse off than you are right now. If you do go with a weld bung, we make/sell them for 1/8NPT from 6061 billet aluminum, $3.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably just use the 1/8 npt aem one for simplicity sake. Good to know I don't need to use a bung, I'll probably still have one welded on if my buddy will tig it on.

I just wasn't the biggest fan of having to put a hole in my tmic if I didn't have to, looks like thats what I'll be doing.
