RallySport Direct's 2015 WRX Build
So now that I have a few miles on this car I felt like I could chime in again with a bit of a written update. First of all, what is the goal with this car? Well I would like to call it a fun street car, yeah I like that, let's go with that haha. We have taken the car to the track a few times and I feel like the car still needs more power, much better braking and more track oriented suspension overall, but I also don't want the car to be uncomfortable, it's one of our few shop cars we can still daily drive with zero complaints. Either way, we want to make sure this car can go quicker, stop better and handle better. So that is where we are at now. Join us as we make this car a bit faster and better overall. Just an update.
260 miles on the car now. The more I drive it, the more I like it. Getting used to the torquey 2.0 takes a bit of getting used to compared to my 05 STi, but man does this thing just love to build boost down low. Also, I think I'm a bit too short for these seats at 5'5 Also, at first I was not a fan of the cable actuated shifter, it made a subtle sound going into gears that I could not quite put my finger on, but over the weekend I figured it out. It's the exact same sound the shifters make in Initial D! Once I noticed that, I felt like Takumi Fujiwara, and I began to love the shifter feel and sound. Okay enough of my lame Initial-D fanboy writing. I will report back once I have some more miles. Thanks guys! Rick |

Hey Rick, all these 2015 threads got me thinking on a 2015 the last 2 days. Went to look at one at the dealership and got my order in for an ISM 15' Wrx.
I looked at the car in the lot for about an hour before I ever went in. My only real complaint on the exterior of the car are the side mirrors. They are huge and boxy. I was wondering if the WRX has the "Noise tube" that Kirill is complaing about. |

In terms of the Noise tube, the WRX does not have it. Its only a STi thing in the USDM market from what I can tell. Congrats on the order, I think you will be VERY happy Kirill RallySportDirect.com |

I few of the subaru techs have checked out the exhaust between 08-12 wrx sedan and my 2014 forester. It looks like they kept the same style. Check it out hope that info helps also its like the brz in the rear subframe.
im running all of gtspec arms in the back. the strut tower fits but does not have the wrx/sti extra mounting point. Lateral arms/ camber arms/ toe arms and swaybar reinforcements. |

So, do you think this '15 WRX is overall better-than or equal-to previous generation STi (excluding obvious peak horsepower advantage)?
After reading through both of your WRX vs. STi posts, I am personally debating the $8K STi premium. I would like to know your thoughts and recommendations for us who are wondering how much better the STi really is. Thanks in advance |

The STi brakes, wheels, transmission (dont forget the STi has DCCD along with front and rear LSD's that the WRX does not), nicer interior materials, push start, HID's, along with more performance oriented struts and springs make a very big difference from the start. Yes you can for sure upgrade all these things on the WRX, but as always it depends on what you want out of the car at the end of the day. The WRX also has a brand new motor and transmission that has not been proven yet, so only time will tell if the WRX 6spd is as bulletproof as the STi model. And in case some people do not know, the new WRX transmission is NOT the same as the STi. The WRX is an all new transmission, where as the STi uses the same unit as the 14 STi. Rick is also getting around 28-29MPG in the WRX, where as I am only getting around 22-23MPG in the STi. Kirill RallySportDirect.com |

honestly my biggest concern is going to be this new cable linkage. i'm only familiar with cable linkages in FWD vehicles like hondas, and they aren't all that great either.
i have had bad experiences with the cable linkage in my friends Del Sol...he's broken his cable twice due to high hp/torque; 300 whp/250 fly. and as its already been stated...only time will tell the dependability of this NEW 6spd unit. i've read great and positive review from autoguide, car and driver, and all the big vehicle reviewers. |

Coming from a BRZ and an STi, I did not like the cable linkage at first as it just felt a bit odd to me. After driving the car for a week now, I am really liking it. It has a different feel than a arm actuated shifter, but almost in a good way. It has a nice little "pop" when going into gear, I will actually turn down the music just to feel and hear the shifter now. I'm sure it all comes down to personal preference, but I think Subaru did an amazing job with the new cable shifter.
Hope this helps Thanks, Rick |

We got our first 15s at the dealer here 2 days ago, after driving a few of them I fell in love.
Contemplating trading in my BRZ for a new wrx. The torque and response of the new engine feels great, and it feels very solid in the turns |

I do like this car the more I drive it, if I could talk myself into putting in a aftermarket seat into the car, I would be in love with it. Thanks, Rick |

Oh man, don't tell me that! Last week I was so certain I was going to keep the ole' beater STi and BRZ, and the more I drive the WRX the more I am thinking about getting rid of the STi and BRZ for one. And you are right on the money with it being more practical, I mean the WRX is not near as focused as those two cars are, but you get almost all of the fun wrapped up in a much more practical package. Okay, I have some serious thinking to do. Quote:

Why are some vendors going so slow on testing parts, you would think you guys would be testing products all day long to get things rolling for the 2015's

Can't wait to see what you guys are going to do with these. Having a BRZ now I know how fast it seems that tons of options came to market for coilovers, wheels, etc. I am new to the Impreza/WRX world, does it look like currently available products for this platform will work or will require wait times to make new one's? Personally I hate the tail lights. Are companies working on things like that already? Just wondering if you and other vendors are hearing support like this is already in the works for this body style?

Hey Rick,
I am loving the write up on both of your guys' cars so far. I apologize for the slew of questions but I haven't seen an update from you guys some days now so I'm just wondering how things are going. How has the WRX been performing as of late? Are you still as happy about the car as you were early-mid April? Have any things cropped up recently which you consider to be annoyances or things that you do not particularly like about the car? Have you been able to go over the break-in period yet? If so, how does the car feel/perform above 4k? Thank you guys! Please keep up all the excellent work! |
