Default 93 Stage 1+ Big SF

Hey All, Was hoping you could lend me a hand with this one. Installed the stage 1+ big sf package a bit over a week ago running the 93 octane normal wastegate tune. Car has been running great until yesterday. Timing isnt so great as im currently in process of moving from Mass to Florida. I do not have the option of switching to stock or anything since I am in the middle of a 1300 mile drive. Basically under load it feels as if the vehicle is cutting fuel after about 10 pounds of boost. Under normal driving not hitting boost the car runs fine. I was able to run a quick data log but dont have as much experience with this as you guys. Obviously I know I need a pro tune but wont be able to get that done until I get to Florida. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Well, I'd say the best thing to do is get an e-tune right away. That will be the "easiest" fix as you don't have to much around under the hood while you're getting ready to move.

The optimal thing is to take out the Cobb intake and revert to stock as it only is a sound maker and makes tuning a PITA. The Cobb intake is known as a worthless mod on this forum. Best bet is to sell it and revert to stock once you get down to Florida.

You can try cleaning the MAF really quick if you get some MAF cleaner. Maybe it's just dirty/oily?

But really, just get an OTS e-tune from Phatbotti. Probably your quickest, safest option.

The problem is with the move I've already tossed the stock intake since the car ran great. Shame on me. Im currently in NJ so I still have a ways to go until I get to Florida. Maybe switching to Cobbs 91 octane tune will help in the mean time? I can also stop by a pep boys or something for some maf cleaner it couldn't hurt. I was hoping someone could take a look at that log and maybe get some insight there. If the cobb intake is an issue what other than stock would you recommend I replace it with?

Ok, so I'd just stop at an autoparts store, get some VP Unleaded Octanium, toss that in the tank and clean your MAF.

Both of those are super easy.

Depending on where you're at in NJ, there's two great shops in the north. Prime in Wallington and AZP in Kenilworth. If you really feel like you want to have a pro give your car a physical before you go any further, check in with them.

Also, depending on where you're at, I have a stock intake sitting in my garage in NJ too lol

You may have mechanical issues no tune will fix. Assuming you dont, id take his advice and get Rons ots map for cheap, its worth the money and headaches alone. Next, Cobb just released updated ots mapping, perhaps you could try that first and see how you like it.

sounds like its most likely not a tune issue but more likely to be a mechanical issue, maybe check vacuum lines and then see if maybe your accessprt in the troubleshooting section says you have any warnings?

Thanks for the insight guys. I sent the log over to cobb and they said it looks to them like there's possibly a leak after the maf. Ill have to check all the connections when I get to FL. I'm not sure if this car has had the turbo inlet recall either. The access port did not show any DTCs when i checked

Based on that log you are pegging the car wideband rich (10.14), MAF scale issue or as Cobb suggested a clamp has come loose after the MAF.

Datazap'd the log, yeah this is DUMPING fuel: https://datazap.me/u/gn4rwhals/z3437...-9-12-13-17-24

17% AF Correction, also the COBB MAP has a CL target of 9 AFR? Maybe someone a bit more versed here can look at that. AF Correction should be +/- 8% per COBB.

It's dumping in a ton of fuel... That can cause it to register as knock. It's probably misfiring since it's drowning in fuel. Make sure the MAF sensor is seated correctly, filter is straight and check for possible leaks throughout...

Till this day I still hear complaints about the Cobb 3" intake. Ironically I used the Cobb 3" MAF calibration on a PRL 3" intake (discontinued) as a starting point for tuning. It wasn't very far off and ran beautifully after a few corrections.

Yeah that MAF just isn't seeing the air it needs to, something is off for sure.

There is a leak after the maf something is either loose, or simply not on correctly

Keep it out of boost till you get to fl

I have a stock intake of you need one and I’m in Florida as well

Where abouts are you moving to?

Also could be a oily maf Crc maf cleaner should also help..how’s the idle?

A few things:

-You're doing a pull when oil temperature is only 133*F. Don't do that. Oil temps should be north of 180*F before you start hammering on boost.
-Your DAM has dropped to 0.5 from 1. This denotes that the ECU is pulling timing and power like crazy to compensate for running pig rich with a wonky MAF problem.
-The commanded final AFR is in the 9's. That is not good.

Get that intake and that tune out of the car ASAP. Drive it nice, do as the others have said, and swap back to a stock intake the moment you can.

Guys I want to make this work with an intake. The answer cannot be go back to stock intake and thats it. With that being said I am in Orlando now getting settled in, I flashed the newest cobb stage 1+ 91 octane tune back in NJ and drove it 1200 miles to Florida and its been running fine so far since. I am still going to get the car up on ramps and check everything out once I'm finished unpacking etc. Im basically driving my other car instead for now so nothing gets screwed up. As far as the idle it idles perfectly. Thanks all

Some reading around and youll find that simply doing an intake for the swagz will net you more problems than swagz.

As another user noted, there are many red flags in your data: hardware and user related.

Don't be surprised if/when you break something expensive over ignorance. You are better off getting a pro-tune at least rather than the OTS.
