Moving back to CA, should I sell here?
Hi,
I moved to MD for guv work in 2013. We're moving back to CA in June '22. As I'm fully remote and will be working from home, I won't need a daily (I have another car also), but I'm concerned about my blobeye wagon anyway. I don't want to do the "who knows a guy?" when I get there. It legally passed CA smog in 2013, but no way it passes new CA ECU check now. My questions are these... What's it worth? What's the going rate? Should I sell it here locally now, or Cars and Bid it there? I'm second owner since 2008. I've got 180k on chassis, 25k on rebuild. '13 STI 6MT + DCCD R180 Brembos V7 goldies 2.14 stroker ETS TMIC Blouch 16G TGV deletes PnP OEM IM + EM Cobb SRI + box + inlet and post-MAF Perrin UP Q300 TBE catted Crawford AOS Engine bay looks stock Cobb APv3 tne at IAG: 300/284 (on 91) As high as 28.8 mpg on all hwy driving, usually 15/21 city/hwy. RCE wagon suspension + Tokico struts F+R sways Whiteline R upper strut ALK Known bads are only external: clear coat cancer on STI hood scoop and hood, some dents and dings, and needs new rear bumper cover (I will be doing this one regardless). Yep, worthless w/o pics, but I just want sentiment and thoughts, not an exact appraisal. Also don't need to hear the "don't move, lol" comments, I'm just legit wondering if I'm looking at 8k or 15k or... I dunno. I honestly thought I'd never sell it. This is early exploration--nothing showing on Auto Trader or Craigslist or BAT. Thanks.

As a resident of California, DON'T TRY TO SELL YOUR CAR HERE!!!!
Seriously though, smog is ridiculous. I have to pass sometime in the next month. The work I have to do to be able to pass is ridiculous and expensive, but I love my bugeye wagon that much. Most buyers here in CA don't want the headache. You'd probably sell your car for a lot more money, and quicker, where you are now. You also wouldn't have to deal with transporting it to CA with you. |
