Compressor surge? Wastegate flutter? Something else? WOT ticking
Over the past week I have been hearing a fluttering noise while WOT and under boost only 3-6k rpm. I didn't know where to look so I thought might as well inspect every aftermarket part I put on.
The other day I took all of parts off and inspecting any silicone for rips or tears and made sure all clamps were tight. The noise was still there. The video below is a short 3-6K pull in third gear. Any idea what this noise is and what can be done? I've read a lot of posts and am not sure what is causing it. One dude had a tear in his turbo inlet hose and the other completely replaced his turbo. You can hear the fluttering noise like a leaf or playing card flapping. Mods: MAPerformance Stage 1+ Intake and Tune Perrin Charge Pipe

Sounds like an exhaust leak
Check your exhaust manifold to cylinder head bolts They are known for coming loose Hope that helps |

Yeah, I agree with exhaust leak. They can sound pretty damn raspy when they happen. I developed one at a track event and it was louder than what you have, but a bit similar.
Pretty easy to check for too! |

I am going to inspect the bolts and buy some new gaskets and see if that works. I have a magnaflow competition catback that I am pretty sure I can no longer get gaskets. Are there any products that can be used for sealing exhaust leaks? |

You both were right but the noise is still there. Did a suds test with a leaf blower and soap.
Proof of exhaust leak (sorry about the ****ty photos): Cracked gasket Large bubbles by the down pipe Seems like I fixed an issue but not the one I was trying to resolve. I’m pretty defeated right now honestly because I think it took me about 8-10 hours. The bolts wouldn’t come off without an extractor and a stud came loose. I had to go to subaru parts department three times during this ****ty job. Anyone have any idea where this sound could be? |
