Default 2008 legacy gt 2.5

Hi all! I’ve been looking and doing research on the later gt’s for awhile now and I’ve finally found the perfect one 2008 legacy gt 2.5 it has 133,000 he’s asking $10,000 and has told me all he knows about it (hardly anything) claims that timing was done at 100k by previous owner and no paper work of course and it is on bagged suspension with an aftermarket turbo and intercooler with 1000cc injectors he does not know the brand I’m trying to work with him to figure it out he claims to be making around 380hp my concerns are.. was it hot rodded out and put away wet? Showcar? Was the timing really done? Was there any tune to make up for the aftermarket turbo (he has no knowledge of any such thing) please help me I’d like to know 1. What to look for specificity 2. Is there anyway I can be 100% sure the timing was done

Thanks any suggestions is absolutely welcome

This sounds like it could be someone's science project that you want no part of.
Your ONLY option here is to find a good local shop that is familiar with Subarus and have them do a full pre-purchase inspection. If you complete your profile so we know your location then people may be able to offer suggestions of a shop that is near you.
If the seller won't allow the inspection that is a huge red flag and a warning to walk away.

That's really expensive for that car. On top of that, it's been abused by a teenager. Walk away.

Like, twice what it should cost. The mods make it worth less, not more. Oof. Hard pass...

I’m from the fox valley in Wisconsin, Bergstrom Subaru for inspection?

Walk away. I might buy an already modded car from someone meticulous about the details and maintenance. Buying a modded car from someone that clearly doesn't know the ins an outs the car is a no go. Google the shop cost to replace an engine and you'll know why. It's way too common for 'the car starting to make noise, so put it up for sale' to happen.

FWIW, any mechanic worth their salt will put a sticker on the timing belt cover with the date and mileage whenever they change a timing belt.

Whatever used subaru you get, you need to have an unaffiliated subaru mechanic inspect. Even that's not a guarantee, but at least give you a clue about the actual condition. I wouldn't take to a dealer for this.

If you can get the car at a better price I would take the risk but definitely not for 10k. I sold my 05 legacy for 7k and it had all the paperwork, super clean, similar miles, but no engine mods.

Found a Spec B with 140k, for nearly $8k-9k, garage keep, all records. Unfortunately i do not like to drive a manual so have to pass it. The car is in Northern VA if you still want it.

So the advise to you is pass the 10k car.

I have a garage keep sleeper 08 LGT Sedan, only about 42k all original miles. Use to keep for my son to drive. It has paddle shifters. I can offer you 14k for it if you want. All stock. Timing belt not yet replaced. Passed PA inspection and emission.

Here is some history for it. It was my grand parent's car in PA, they decided to trade it in for a newer Forester. But then they call me a day before they did and due to Covid-19, I cannot head up to PA to see what happen. Long story short, the trade-in was like (as usual lower than expected price). So the vehicle was on hold and must get the August 2020 inspection done to be legally within PA. So the car is re-registered and I took over for it. Of course, being generous, I have a local VA dealership to offer a forester to my granny and the company shipped the car to them in exchange.

The Legacy GT is now in my garage reg. in MD. I am technically the "2nd owner" if you counting my granny is the first original owner. (or by registration, I am the third owner due to PA's regulation).
