Yeah, charge pipes are done.

Fuel system is waiting on my Walbro 400 surge tank hanger to be welded up and for my inline fuel filter to be shipped. Been waiting 3 weeks already
I know I'll need more fuel eventually but this surge tank might become product.

The new AOS drawings are at the machine shop...I need to follow up on that.

This weekend, I plan on getting some time to finish the temporary downpipe...making it out of mild for the eBay 35r....not the long term turbo.

Yeah, it's been a while!

Indeed, I stopped engineering performance parts

When business keeps you too busy to finish your own website guess I need to hire someone.

Yeah, it's just across town. Like 15 minutes away. I'm looking forward to swinging over and checking it out.

Ok, as promised, an update...and yes, pics to come as well.

-Picked up my bored/honed (with torque plates) block from the machine shop...perks of trying to find a new machinist. We'll see how this mic's out.
-Did my usual oil port modifications.
-balanced rods
-balanced pistons
-cleaned up the machining on the pistons...basically knock down potential hotspots, radius sharp edges etc. Starts with a fine sand cartridge (tried some new SA ones that weren't so fine as you'll see in the pics) on my die grinder, then 3M medium grit sanding sponge and finish with a fine sanding sponge or steel wool.

I need to finish up the LH head combustion chambers and then drop the heads off for a valve job.

Next up will be measuring block, pistons, rods, bearing clearances, piston to wall, etc...all that fun stuff.

-Micah

Oh, I'm not. Been having some issues finding a machine shop worth a squat in Mooresville.

Block story:
1.) They didn't bore completely to the bottom of cylinder one.
2.) Correcting the bore, they snagged and broke the stone at the bottom of #1...new 0.1mm pistons were ordered by the shop and apologies were made.
3.) New pistons finally show up, they bore and hone for the new pistons...I'm prep the pistons and balance them. Start going forward with measurements and they put my ptw at roughly 0.0040" when I specified 0.0028"

My terrible luck on my personal builds continue

Oh and to boot, the rings leave an 0.025" ring gap with no cutting...machinist is scrambling for ring solutions now...

I told him that I'm going to bring in a spare block, he's going to bore and hone it properly, and that'll be it.

Sounds as if you'd been better off shipping to a capable shop. So few of these places actually seem to care about getting it right much less learning from their mistakes and trying to help you out the right way.

Definitely go with a shop you KNOW is going to do the work right. A shop that you have had a friend use, or you have seen their work.

Use the next step up ring size and grind them down. Will have slightly higher tension but it wont make enough of a difference to matter

That's the obvious answer, however, he also somehow screwed up the bore and hone with the torque plates. So I'm taking another block to another shop. Got my original pistons back from him. Screw that shop.

The joys of moving to new areas. Always trying to find a good shop to work with. Figures I'm in 'Race City' but all the good machinists must work for race teams and I can't get private work done at work
