The speedo is usually overestimating your speed. It must drive SOA crazy to have people complaining about every little detail they fix their mind on...

I don't see what the big deal is on the speedometer. It's really not that difficult to read & does it really affect your driving habits? Doubtful. I usually drive between 65-70 on the highway out of habit & naturally get the car to that speed & the speedometer doesn't make it any harder for me to know what I know already. I don't need something that's going to tell me I'm going 66 as opposed to 67 & I'm certainly not staring at the tick marks wondering if I'm going 67.5 mph or 68 mph at a particular second.

Maybe it's because it's NOT the first car I've driven with a speedo like this & it's really not that hard to get used to.

Maybe I'm just lame.

But I wasn't talking about precision. With the three different sized tick marks, I find myself doing a double take to see what speed I'm at. For highway speeds it is less critical in general, except that for breaking the car in I'm trying to keep the speed under 65. I find myself mistaking 62.5 for 65 and then yesterday thinking 70 was 65. But even in town I find myself doing a double take. Maybe it's just me and the other poster, but IMHO every 5mph would have been easier to read. Or maybe labeling every 10 moh? I don't know. All I know is I've been needing to pay more attention than I would normally.

I think my problem is that all other cars I've driven typically have 5 mph resolution shown. Or in a few cases 1 mph. I've never driven a car with 2.5 mph resolution. I'm sure I'll get used to it. But right now it is not second nature to me.

I think we are "complaining" about that because it's very hard to find a flaw with this car. I'm achieving great gas mileage and it's just an all around great car. Will I find more things to be nit picky about? Will everyone else? Probably, but we are entilted to our own opinions and if these little "flaws" are the only thing we can find wrong with the car, I think that says something about Subaru.

Before my OB, my family had owned 12 Hyundai's and my 11 Sonata was my final straw(even though we never had a problem with them before). It was plagued with quality control issues that hyundai didn't have the fix for. My parents are on their 13th and 14th hyundai's because they love them and they love their warranties. I for one am a subaru convert. I think they are building great cars.

Which is sort of odd since if they change cars so often, they don't utilize the warranty

Interesting point. Anyone know how much over it's reading? Every car I have owned reads 2+ mph high @ 60. That can throw your mpg readings off by as much as 4%. 4% of a mixed 30mpg is 1.2. Food for thought.

I've used my GPS to double check & my MPH & odometer readings are spot on.

Any difference depending on which wheels/model people have? Somehow they got the Sport .2inch taller with apparently no change other than the wheels/tires. I have been wondering if that might affect the odometer.

When I switched tire sizes slightly on my Honda Element, I actually got MORE accurate results than the stock tires, as if it was made for the different size.(which looked better too)

I have GPS calibrated our Impreza Premium Hatch with the stock alloy 16" tires /wheels and it is spot on accurate. My wife is relieved at that, since her Accord was off by a whopping 10mph at 65mph.

how about the front, anyone check those out yet for upgrades?
In combination with the much larger rear, I assume! Nobody wants to dial in MORE understeer!

a 22mm rear would be awesome, that is what I run on my Buick, and a 34mm in the front.

anyone know the size of the front bar?

My brother should have actually been included when I said my parents too. My dad just traded an 08 Elantra he bought used with 8,717 miles on it. Let's just say he made good use of the warranty. It's the only hyundai we've ever had a problem with besides my Sonata.

Regardless, I'm a Subaru convert. My uncle is looking to retire his 00 Neon and I may have just talked him into a Impreza Premium Sedan!

I upgraded my rsb to a 19mm. No regrets. I'm looking for a 22mm for the front now.

I tested mine with a handheld GPS (gives a more accurate reading), and found the car to be under-reporting mph by just under 2% - not a huge amount...our mercedes under-reports by almost 9% due to oversized (amg) wheels. I have been meaning to run another test but 2% isn't a very significant amount anyway.

...
i agree. yet, i think i have very high standards for cars. this is my first subaru, and it took a major fumble on Honda's part to have me changing manufacturers. (after having owned Hondas for the past 2+ decades, and my parents having owned and still owning an Acura Legend). i am detail oriented to a fault, and unrealistically have expectations for everything i purchase.

my 2000 Honda Civic was perfect except for a rattle that took 7 trips to the dealer to find and fix. is that bit extreme? yes, it is. but then, after fixing it, the car didn't rattle for the next ten years and i have no other complaints of it. if it weren't for an accident, i would have happily kept that car for several more years.

beyond the few intermittent rattles, i am very happy with my Impreza. i know in the grand scheme that the speedometer increments is petty compared to people having airbag issues, but it was something i noticed right away, and i haven't yet grown accustomed to.

but you're right: it's good to be complaining and picky about things that are of small consequence in the grand scheme.

The problem I was having was intermittently the airbag light would turn on when I had a passenger in the seat. Happened twice in ~400 miles I had the car. Dealer said the fix was to replace the seat bottom which has the sensor. I never got to see if that worked or not since I got my new car.

ok to be more precise, when the passenger sat in the seat the "passenger airbag" light would light "on" and when there were no passenger, the "passenger aorbag" light would light "off"?

When the system malfunctioned it would have the airbag malfunction indicator on the gauge cluster. On the center display it would say Passenger Airbag Off. After you power cycle the car, it goes back to normal.

This is what happens.

Update:

I think we are going to wait out the airbag issue, now that SOA has said they will compensate us for all of the delays and 6 weeks of not having the car (and still targeting first week of July to complete repairs). They will keep the car until then. I am going to ask for the Subaru Added Security warranty extension, have the dealership tint the windows, add the factory hatch wing, add splash guards, add cargo tray, add aux audio input, and maybe a few other Accessories. I am going to ask that they start installing the stuff and when the seat bases and airbag modules are replaced in July, the car will be ready to get back to me. I will also ask for the difference in fuel cost that we have had to spend with the gas-guzzler SUV we were given before the loaner Forester became available. We shall see what they say.

To all with the airbag issue, take your car in. Even though the airbag malfunction light goes off after power cycling, it still stores a hard code. When bringing it into the dealership, I would preemptively tell them to NOT simply clear the code, as this is what I suspect they did with me the first time. This issue should be well documented by now, and SOA can give further guidance.
