So finally, finally, FINALLY I picked up a real clutch Stage 2 Competition Clutch!
Interesting thing I found, a bit of the back side of the pressure plate is ACT yellow... Apparently each company R&D's their own clutch disk, but it's very expensive to manufacture the pressure plate. So there's essentially 1 or 2 manufacturers that actually make the pressure plate, and then the name brand companies essentially share from that and each other I've gonna have my ACT flywheel re-surfaced this week, just in case |

Well, that stupid eBay-special clutch came back and bit me on the ass. Coming home Thursdary night it turned itself into neutral. I was in the middle of an intersection and needed to get outta trouble. I gave it some gas and the engine just revved, followed by a rancid burning-permanent-marker smell delivered by a cloud from underneath my car.
I coasted into the Superstore parking lot and called Payless Towing. I just moved to North Van 2 months ago and don't know any tow's around here, so when they rattle off companies, I went with the name. I'm at the bottom of the hill from my house, so I'm expecting a $30 - $40 bill. To tow my car 4 km, I get charged $90 ****ing dollars! The irony of all this, my bros and I had already planned to change the clutch this morning, it just couldn't last 2 more days. I had some homework to do and found Performance Towing would tow my car to Abby (where my bros shop's at) for $150. (After doing all this calling around, Payless Towing is actually THE most expensive tow in North Van! I like to call them PayMORE Towing ). I agree with Performance to meet me at my place at 5:30pm, and to go to my bros shop (I crashed at his place Friday night). He finally shows up, at 8pm... Fine, whatever, as long as it gets done tonight. We get off Clearbrook Rd. and the cabin of the tow truck starts filling with steam! We pull into a gas station; it's the type of truck where you sit over the engine and lift the whole cab over to get to it. There's steam spewing out the rad where the cap used to be! It luckily didn't fall off, and was found behind the bumper. We go to another gas station that actually offer water to its customers and top it off. OK, fine, whatever, get me to the damn shop already. The driver slams the cab back down, and the TRUCK STARTS ROLLING BACK TOWARD THE PUMPS! Cause he didn't put the hand brake on! Now this driver is a nice old man, but a limping old man. So I ran to the truck and hopped in to pull the handbrake... We get to the shop and unhook my car. He agreed Thursday night that he accepts Visa. He unhooks my car at least, but then tells me its cash only... Fine, whatever, get me to a bank machine. Left the car at the shop, and went to get some sleep. Anyway, that was my adventure rant. He's my clutch rant... This is what happens to an F1 Racing clutch after only 40 000 kms! Of EASY driving! This "Stage 2" never held any boost, so I had to drive her normally this entire time. I'd never thought I'd ever do nor end up saying this, but... I had to, vacuum, my transmission. Hair everywhere. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER waist your time, money nor the wear and tear on your fingers and keyboard even looking at these. You're actually better off with a Dynapac from Lordco if you absolutely need a clutch... Anyways, the real clutch is in. And it's amazing. Last edited by clsmooth; 11-29-2009 at 12:03 AM. |

I'll be opening that can of worms, when I get the 6 speed. At least it's a used OEM and not an ebay special. But then again he said he can't tell me what the state of the clutch is so he can't guarantee it's usable. So I'm not expecting to be able to use it.
Now what the heck to do with that RS exedy clutch, plates, and lighten flywheel, that I wanked from splinter. -_- well it was a backup clutch in case, I didn't get the 6 speed before the clutch died. |

Appreciate your honesty Chris. It's tough situation to deal with when a new part goes bad. Especially when said part leaves you stranded.
But what a story. |

funkmasta, I'll use the STi since after all when everthing is said and done I'll be stuffing a new clutch, plates, ETC with the new engine, when I get it. I thought about using it but it's not worth using the rs one for a bit then throwing it out.

When I was looking for a clutch the 6-speed and 5-speed ones were different part numbers...
I haven't had to have a car towed in... 6? 7 years? So never had BCAA. At least Performance was dirt cheap, despite the 'excitement'. I'd use him again, but I'd make sure his truck is in working order before we go LOL |

I've become a bit LED obsessed as of late. I changed all the 194 bulbs in the car to LED and I like. Amber in the corner lights and side markers, and blue to light up the license plate.
I get em for cheap enough that I'm gonna give these a try I order two 1157's in white and four 1156's in amber. Just waiting on 2 more 1156's. I wanted something that actually fills the tail light and turn signals, not just a dot, and these look like they should... |

Well, the 1157's are very bright! So bright in fact it makes my tail lights look a bit more pink! So I ordered some red one and gonna see how those look. Wouldn't mind having them match the LED's in my wing.
And the 1156's require addtional resisitors. They're suppose to simulate the resistance of a filament bulb, but not completely, they still flash really fast. I'm gonna see if a local electronics shop carries em cheaper then eBay... |

are you ordering these bulbs from ebay?
there's a small chinese electronics shop on main street that wanted to sell me a white 1157 for $20. I'm interested to see how the red 1157 will turn out. |

I have been looking at LED bulbs for my Volvo from superbrightleds.com as some of the members over at turbobricks have purchased LED bulbs from them. |

$20!?! The 1157's are a bit more, and I got a pair, shipped, for... $8? 1156's worked out to $5 ~ $6 shipped for a pair, and found a seller who carries a few different colours of 194's and sells em for $1.99 a pair, free shipping. |

So the red LED 1157's arrived and started to put them in. It looked great! Just as red as the LED in the wing... but one doesn't work But the seller's cool and been helpful and should be getting me another one...

I can't seem to get a seller to send me a working pair. Always 1 of the 2 don't work... I gotta keep looking.
And when the weather is both warm and dry, and I have some time, I'd like to see if this all works too... |

Huh... one more AirCare, hopefully the last one as I heard it'll be gone by 2011. Rear O2 simulator, seems to be working so far.
