Now that the car's paid off, I wanna get all the little things taken care of.
One of em was, I always wanted to upgrade and run dual horns. Especially this past year, I unfortunately find myself using my horn almost daily... and they happen to be on sale at Princess Auto yesterday. Went from one 110dB to two 132dB. Hard to tell without going deaf, but I'm pretty sure they both work |

Oh nice. How does the tone of these compare to stock? I never liked the eep-eep standard horns.

So with the car paid off now, I'm taking care of a bunch of little things. And I mean little! All the way down to replacing those lights in the fog light and cruise control switches.
The list is on-going but I've taken care of finally fixing the alarm, new remote on it's way, replaced the clutch master and slave to get rid of the spongy clutch pedal feel, STI key magnetic oil drain plug, things like that. One of the other things was I wanted to re-do but wasn't a priority was the back-half of the stereo, new amp and sub. I've gotten tired of the 2-amp setup (1 sub, 1 mid). Makes for more of a wiring mess too. I've had em since my younger days and guess I don't want it that loud anymore , going for clarity/quality now I guess... So I got one amp to rule them all! JBL GTO5355 Wasn't a priority, but couldn't pass up the deal I stumbled across on eBay... Next is a 12" JBL sub of some kind and battery relocation kit |

I've become a bit LED obsessed and did a bit of an experiment on the gauge pack to start.
I like the look! Gonna work on the rest of the gauges and controls... |

Experiment successful! My camera/phone gets confused when looking at an LED, so the colour and sharpness are a bit off...
Those strange, small lights for the gauge cluster and dash are now made in LED! So I bought a bunch of em. Didn't even have to do anything about the green. The wavelength coming out of the LED must be so intense it just slides right through the green unaltered. |

Some of my winter projects are coming together.
My keyless entry/alarm showed up! Found the keyless module out of a 98 Forester for $10 with harness. Picked up a new remote for $40 and brand new OEM alarm for $90. |

Redoing the back-half of the stereo. New amp, sub, battery relocation box and grill. A few more odds and ends, and I'll start building.

This past weekend was the first day of the year where it was sunny, and where I had the time, to work with the spray glue outside.

Something I've always wanted to try, and probably something I'll always to in the future. Always wanted to black-out the barrel. When it's on the car it should really hide the crap that builds up.

So today, I'm not impressed. Went out to my car to go to work this morning, pushed in my clutch before I even started it, and heard a pop.
Drove to work and pushing down on the clutch now required little to no effort. The clutch now engages at the absolute top of the peddle travel, and also slipped under boost. With all the symptoms it's displaying, I'm 99% sure the pressure plate cracked, or at least a few of its bearing fingers. I spend a bit of extra money for a Competition Clutch Stage 2 and installed it back in Dec. of 09. It seems to have lasted 22 months; was kinda hoping for more. Mind you, when I opened the Competition Clutch box, the pressure plate was a yellow ACT one painted black. Not sure why some of these brands are all mixed in together... |

Did a bit of maintenance over the weekend. Gearing up for the big 200 000 km service with my bros help at his shop, but doing a few things that I can do myself in the driveway first, save some time...
Picked up a Megan Racing engine mount kit, installed the transmission mount and went to change the dog bone too. Took the intercooler off and noticed I was leaking fuel. It's amazing how the smallest things will keep your car from being mobile... To get to the fuel regular bypass block, I had to get the PCV/valve cover hosing out of the way. Took the lines off, and they were packed with the equivalent of automotive margarine! This is another previous owner setup Turns out this hosing wasn't doing anything and I'm not sure for how long it was not doing it for. After doing some homework online I found this incredibly handy schematic The previous owner had the very outer 'pink' hoses tee'd into the 'blue' hose coming right out of the block. Essentially he had the intake hooked up to the exhaust He then had a 2nd tee about 2" away from the 1st one and ran that into a catch can/oil-air separator. It looked ghetto, but it was one of those things that seemed to be working (cause the previous owner left me with lots of surprises over the years) and was one of those things you just kinda leave til later... Well it was a good thing I did something cause it was doing absolutely nothing. Auto margarine's gross! It slops everywhere and feels like you're using someone else's second hand personal lubricant. It gives you thoughts of rape showers with your coveralls still on. It also makes for the worse toast you've ever had. The lines were just packed with it, so out with the old. That catch weighed about 4lbs when I took it out and about 3lbs after more margarine leaked out of it. I also don't know why people like using the clear garden hose with the cord weaved in it. It gets stained with whatever fluids going through and turns rock hard over time. Picked up a new PCV hosing kit from Specialty Subaru that they happened to have it on the shelf, and capped off the outlet for the hose that goes to the airbox. And ordered in some K&N breather filters for the valve covers, seeing as how the valve cover outlets on a Subaru boxer intake air. Went for a test drive and holy **** what a difference! I usually have to wait for the car to get fairly warmed up before it drives nice. It drove as it used to when fully warmed up while it was still warming up. Throttle's smoother, shifting's smooter and I read online that I may even can expect some better gas mileage. I highly recommend! Last edited by clsmooth; 12-19-2011 at 04:01 AM. |

Had some time to photoshop, this is what the previous owner's setup was:
You're welcome to share your thoughts behind this logic as it hurts my brain processing this information. |

Put in a new 90 amp alt in. So far things seems to be running a lot better. They were under-powered for the GC's so I hope to get some cleaner running...
