2004 WRX Engine EJ205 Swap
Hello, I have a 2004 Subaru Wrx. I bought it about a week ago with leaking oil. Apparently, the engine was already swapped, but now ill be doing it again, the issue is that I don't know whether it's a jdm or a usdm engine. Based on how the front of the engine looks, I don't think it has avcs, whereas I'm still confused whether it's a jdm or a Usdm. It's important for me to know this because id like to have an easy plug-in swap, where all the connectors plug right in. I don't know if even buying an avcs engine would work with what I have there at the moment. I'm planning to buy an engine from eBay for around 1k, but I need to know what engine exactly so it could be an easy swap. Here are some photos of the engine, hopefully, you guys could help me out.
Engines I'm considering to buy - https://www.ebay.com/itm/254490005464 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/04-06-JDM-S...eGLeD&LH_BIN=1 Photos of my engine - https://imgur.com/a/tIECbT6

Post thread in one place only. Try not to clutter the forum with multiple threads that are exactly or close to the same. I responded to your other thread. And all of the info you need is in here if you search. Ask mods to merge the 2 threads.

To ascertain whether you have a JDM AVCS or non JDM engine, you need to get one of the plastic timing covers off from the front of the engine (3 pieces, left, center and right) like shown:
This is a picture of my 2005 WRX STi's EJ207 engine. It is an AUS DM vehicle which is almost identical or equivalent to the STi V-Limited JDM model. This has single AVCS on the intake cams only. The shiny camshaft gear, is AVCS, while the bottom black gears are non AVCS. That aside your ebay listing is for a DUAL AVCS engine - this will not work with you as 04 WRX's did not come readily available with DUAL AVCS in any shape or form. If you decided to go ahead with it, you would be swapping over not just the engine, but ECU, locks and immobilizer. Sorry to say but this is far from an easy plug in swap. Hope this helps. |

Jdm ej205 into saab 9-2x aero(usdm ej205)
Had to swap all the Jdm accessories out for the Usdm parts(power steering pump, intake manifold, ac compressor, etc) but I have not bought a jdm Ecu yet, so that I can hook up the AVCS system. My question is, will the car run fine without the jdm intake manifold, after i get the jdm Ecu and hook up the AVCS.
