Default 2003 wrx rust repair, rear left quarter panel.

Hi! I bought this car in this condition, and it has come time to weld in some new metal! The only problem is, I don't know what the frame is supposed to look like underneath the nice shiny stuff. I bought all the important metal pieces pre-fabbed but still need to build up what's underneath on the frame as it is rusted to rat. does anyone have a diagram or some pics of what it is supposed to look like on the inside of what's circled? Thanks!

If they do, hopefully they use the NASIOC image host so that the pictures can be embedded into their posts and easily seen.

Seeing as this is a GD wagon, you should take a look at the rear strut towers and maybe then it will finally convince you that what you are about to attempt to do is a massive waste of time and money.

Arg. If your profile pic of a wagon is the car you're talking about, you have a lot more investigation to do before you do anything. Look up the structural rust issues with these cars. There's sort of a sandwich of metal that make up the rear strut towers and the bad decisions to put more metal in that easily picks up moisture and rusts from the inside out. If it's a goner, and you're a welder, I suppose you can fabricate and weld in anything. But it needs to be solid.

Oh dear god!! I fixed my 04 wrx wagon last year. My exterior rust was maybe 1/2 as bad as yours, and both strut towers had holes in them I could put my hand through. As already stated, you have a lot more to explore there. You need to gut the rear completely and see what is under the carpet and the plastic seatbelt covers in the rear. I have pics of mine and how I fixed it. I will try and post them later. One last thing is it was a major PITA, and I am a welder by trade so there is that.

As for the comments of it being a waste of time and $$, it is definitely a waste of time. Very little money is needed. Just time, patience, scrap metal and of course some skills.

I'll admit, it seems to be a lot of steps to go back after the images are uploaded to acquire the embedding links for each image.

I usually have two windows open (the forum and the uploading site), and then copy and paste the embedding links into my posts while uploading each one.

Go to any picture. Click "embed codes". Scroll down and at BB Code, a "copy" box will appear. Left click that. Then in your nasioc post, ctl-v and it's done.
