We have a first-gen Leaf too. Somehow, even though it's based on the miserable Versa, I kind of don't mind the Leaf, while the Versa makes me want to kick it until it cries.

I love oddities. Especially when they’re the result of engineering, not design.

Totem Automobili, an Italian start-up in the restomod car segment, announces the launch of its first handcrafted luxury vehicle: the Totem GT electric. With its sensual design, electric heart and sporty soul the new GT electric is an handcrafted timeless restoration of the glorious Alfa Romeo Giulia GT 1600/1750 of the 60'.

Is it bad I’d rather have the Giulia Quadropollywogofolio engine in it?

That's purdy. Would DD, for sure. Even if it just had a 100 mile range.

Yeah, but with that mention of carbon fiber, etc. it's going to be a $200k plaything for sheiks.

I must've missed some car show event the other weekend, I was behind a Lotus Elise and we passed a Seven coming the other way.

Elon has already made an electric-powered Elise, but MAN would an electric-powered Seven be a damn hoot.

I really think that EV Skateboards and stand alone motors will make restomods a lot easier.

I have already seen 300 HP drive motors the size of a diff housing.

Elon Musk says Tesla would consider merger with rival automaker

Elon Musk may be looking to conquer the automotive industry, but not in a hostile way.

The Tesla CEO told German media executive Mathias Döpfner on Tuesday that he has no intention of initiating a takeover attempt of another automaker, despite his company having the strength to do so thanks to its more than $500 billion market capitalization, Reuters reported.

However, he would consider entering a mutually acceptable relationship with another brand.

"We are definitely not going to launch a hostile takeover. If somebody said it would be a good idea to merge with Tesla, we would have this conversation," Musk said.

Musk didn't elaborate if any such discussions had recently occurred. Daimler and Toyota each took stakes in Tesla during its development but cashed out in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Based on its stock price, Tesla is worth more than both automakers plus Volkswagen and General Motors combined.

Musk was in Germany receiving the Axel Springer Award, which is given to "outstanding personalities who are innovative in an extraordinary way, who create and change markets and who shape culture while at the same time shouldering their social responsibility." Previous recipients include Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos.

Translation: we're almost out of cash.

They may be worth more than Toyota in hypothetical money (stocks) but cash is king.

According to their Q3 report, they have $14B in cash reserves, and generated $1.5B in cash flow.

They could buy someone small without an issue.

I was thinking Toyota might be the company that goes for it with Tesla. They've been dragging their feet on their own EV development and seem to prefer partnering with other companies when it comes to building anything beyond their bread and butter vehicles.

They had a partnership with Toyota for a few years. Rav4 EV was the result.

Wasn't so much a partnership. One time $100M payment in exchange for 2,600 vehicles shipped, enough to max out the CARB ZEV rules and have a few hundred extra for cushion.

Are side view cameras instead of mirrors legal yet? IIRC, you could use cameras as supplementary side view but the glass mirror was still required.

I like what they’ve done with efficiency but that is still pretty expensive for what is basically a closed canopy motorcycle.

Finally watch this, and it is impressive. And it looks like it can be fairly profitable fairly quickly. using it as a small peak plant is brilliant.
