I strangely always get a smile on my face when I see a notification for a new post in the region. I'm not even sure how long it's been since I had a Subaru.

Default Congrats!

Ebb_n_Flow,
Nice to hear you finally got the Subaru you've been wanting. Good for you.
We r up here in Tooele county, and don't get down there too often. But I have fond memories of skiing down your way in the 90's at Elk Meadows. Beautiful area!
They have a Cars & Coffee meet-up every month up here at Utah Motorsports Campus that is usually pretty well represented by all makes, including several Subaru's. We go every month. There are quite a few cool muscle and tuner cars that participate in the meet-up, and they have roll-on drag racing as well for a fee. It's a good time, and if your not racing, it's free. Here's the address if your interested. Next one is on Saturday August 21st. Details are on their website. 512 Sheep Lane, Grantsville, UT 84074.
Welcome to the community, G.

Hey everyone. I've been doing the back and forth between norther NY in the summer and SLC in the winter for 8 years. I am going to be starting my own business and staying somewhere in the SLC area for this reason. My car has been registered in NY and I'm going to need to figure out what to do to get my car to pass smog in SLC. My biggest concern is visual inspection. If I pass the sniffer will they fail me if I don't have the OEM cat in place? What about things like larger injectors, fuel rail, and intake? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Depends. Is your car completely catless or is there at least one cat installed? There's an apparent grey area in the law where technicians seem to differ. Sticklers will check your emissions label under the hood, confirm how many cats were installed from the factory, punch it into the computer, and determine if it passes or fails. The easier going guys will pass you so long as there is at least one cat installed.

If you have at least one cat installed and have no problems with sensor readiness, you have a chance to pass without greasing some palms.

Alternatively, you could get a PO box in any county but Utah, Salt Lake, Weber, and Davis (Tooele is a favorite for this option in my experience), register your car there, and not have to worry about passing emissions.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a catted dp and am planning on getting one of those GESI cats to replace this one with since it flows just as well but offers a bit more reduced emissions. Good to know it only takes a PO Box though. Wasn't sure if I would need an actual physical address

Actually it can’t be a PO Box anymore. They are getting a lot more strict.
