I'm currently at 31,700 miles with no major issues. I had a couple of rattles in the dash that the dealer was able to fix up. Turned out to be the light sensor for the automatic headlamps and the speaker panels covering the tweeters. I change my own oil every 6,000 miles with Castrol Syntec Titanium and a Bosch Distance+ filter ($32.99 total at Advance Auto). I will be doing my brake flush next weekend and I will be at about 33K by that point. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Explain your $32.99. When I go to the Advance Auto Parts web site, this is the only Castrol 0W-20 product I find:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...hedFrom=header

At almost $10/quart, that's $53/oil change just for the oil, and doesn't include the filter's cost ($13.50 for the Bosch Distance Plus filter, according to the web site).

So to me, it looks like an almost $70 oil change when buying those supplied from Advance Auto Parts.

Advance changes their oil change specials all the time. This month it looks like it is 5 quarts of Valvoline Synpower(any weight) and a Purolator PureOne filter for $34.99(or two oil change specials for $29.99/each). I stocked up when they had the Castrol + Bosch products on sale and have been running it for the past year or so and still have enough for two more changes.

Last month they were running the Castrol products on special and they were similarly priced to this months special. If you are brand-loyal just wait a bit and it will come around again. If you are not then the Valvoline with PureOne filter looks like a good deal at $29.99 per change when you buy two.

OK, thanks for the explanation.

I buy Amsoil OE 0W-20 from my local distributor for $6.10/quart. I buy the preferred Subaru black "160" (Roki) filters on eBay for approximately $7 each. So my cost is less than $40 for an oil change, but not as low as your Advance Auto discount prices.

It was burning insane amounts of oil. It first started to burn a litre of oil with 3500km driven. It progressively got worse to the point of burning 1 litre of oil with every 900 km driven.

Check the now it's my oil light thread if you have not already...LOL.

I hope you didn't have to pay anything for that...did you get oil consumption tests and all that?

I've read through it a few times. Sad to hear people aren't getting their oil consumption problems fixed.

I didn't have to pay a cent. My oil consumption test consisted of me going back to Subaru every time my oil light came back on, which was about every 2 weeks. They just wrote down my mileage and how much oil they had to add. They changed the PCV valve, didn't so anything, and then decided to replace my engine.

2012 premium hatch....purchased in march 2012....about 25,000 so far. Commute to work is about 600 miles a week. No major issues. Saved my a$$ in one snow storm already. Average about 34mpg with about 80% highway miles.

Yup, this is what long trips that keep the engine hot will do for you. Cold starts are brutal on AVG MPGs.

Sounds similar to my 2011 Jetta TDI that I traded in to get my Impreza...had it 16 months and had 44k miles when I traded it.

Wow yea I'm on track for that mileage. Did you get a good amount of trade in value on the Jetta?

I'm sure he did. If there's one thing I have to give VW credit for, it's the resale value of their TDI cars.

I bought my 2010 Golf TDI for $25k in March 2010. One reason I bought it then is because the Federal government was giving an alternate fuel refund, which gave me $1300 back when I filed my taxes the next year. So in effect, I paid $23,700 for that car. Sadly, it was a reliability nightmare, so 27 months later (June 2012) and with 30k miles on the odometer, I sold it for $22k. This was a private sale that I handled myself; the Subaru dealership would only give me $16.5k in trade (same with the Ford dealership, as I was also considering the Focus).

The way I look at it, I paid $1300 to use that POS TDI for 27 months and 30k miles. Not bad, except for the anger, frustration, and inconvenience of driving such an unreliable car. Oh well, it's gone, and now I enjoy getting in my Impreza and not wondering if it's going to start due to a frozen intercooler, or spring a major fuel leak while I'm out of town, or send shards of fuel pump metal throughout the fuel system, or have an emissions failure, or clog its diesel particulate filter, or....

I wouldn't call it good but like sgoldste01, I got 16.5k trade in..they started much lower but I obviously walked away. Unlike him, I couldn't wait for someone to try and buy it private party so I took the hit. But, I also got a good deal on the impreza so I almost had no negative equity.

dayum I feel great about getting $18k for mine. Must be cause we're so close to Berkeley or something. that was trade at Subie dealer.

we should all look up our VW VINs and see who's broke down! Mine def. had shards in the fuel filter. That's when I was over it real quick.

I'd love to know how my old TDI has been treating the guy who bought it from me. It truly was in pristine condition, even though it stranded me twice. I've thought of sending him an email to ask, but I'm not sure that would be appropriate (especially if it has given him grief).

If only VW cared how their cars were treating their owners. VW's success is the 8th wonder of the modern world. I almost bought one, but the internet slapped me in the face and said "what the hell are you thinking?"

What do I know though, I have a car that burns $7-8 per quart oil.
