Default Headed back to Houston.......Food recommendations again?

Aloha TXIC! So I'll be heading to Houston next month, on my way back home from Florida. A while back I had posted a thread here looking for food recommendations ( https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=1597673 ) and got some great advice from you guys. I was hoping to see if you guys could help me out again and throw out some spots for me to look into? I'm only going to be in town for 2 days, but would love to get some good Mexican food and BBQ while I'm here. Fire away....

On a related note, I fly into IAH but haven't booked a hotel yet. Last time I was there, we stayed in the Galleria area mainly so that my wife was nearby most of the shopping areas. This time, I'll be flying solo, so I'm open to staying just about anywhere. I'll also have a rental car, and am willing to drive just about where evers, so with that being said, where should I start looking for hotels? Mainly looking for somewhere centralized, safe, and easily accessible. Should I just stay in the Galleria area again? Price is not as much of a deciding factor (company trip) as compared to convenience. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Nothing wrong with staying near the Galleria area again as that is a decent area to stay and play.

Regarding Mexican I would recommend The Original Ninfa's on Navigation as it is a Houston institution. Irma's Original is also another place I would recommend but parking might be limited and no set menu (Tex-Mex fare though). You can't go wrong with the previous thread for El Tiempo Cantina and I would throw in Los Cucos for bang-for-the-buck Mexican Food.

For BBQ, Killen's BBQ in Pearland is one of the more sought after location but you have good ones all around town. A few of them you might have to wait in line before open (Tejas Chocolate+Barbecue in Tomball and Corkscrew BBQ in Spring). Gatlin's BBQ is really good and a quick drive from the Galleria.

Thanks for the recs my friend, I appreciate it. While Ninfa's is definitely on my radar, I'm also totally cool with the small hole in the wall joints too. Hoping to find some good street tacos like in LA and San Diego.

As for BBQ that's a tough one. Initially I had my mind set on Gatlin's but had started reading more about Killen's too. Anybody got some favorites they want to throw out there?

If you want street tacos then, Tacos El Gato - i.e. Taco Truck.

street tacos - Taqueria Ruby's in Cypress (hwy 290 at Huffmeister). Eat here about once a week.

BBQ - Burns BBQ... in Acres Homes so you might not enjoy the area... do NOT go alone at night

BBQ - Tejas Chocolate and bbq in Tomball, specials change daily and they close when they run out of food. Their beef ribs are big enough for Fred Flinstone but they aren't cheap

You can choose an apartment in any area you want. You can choose an apartment in any area you want. Usually, Airbnb is cheaper and better than hotels, especially if you are staying in the city for 2 days. Also, you have at your disposal an apartment where you can cook at any time.
My favorite BBQ is at Killen's. I will sell my soul for this meat. It's the best.
Also, when I am traveling, I like to drink a shake with some adaptogen mushroom blend to deal with the anxiety I have during the flies. What about you? What do you do to combat such feelings when you are not at home?
