Right? Always bothered me that the series go rid of Doakes so early. This 10-part series better end with Dexter on the chair looking out and seeing the faces of all his victims (like he did to them). Basically how the show should have ended the first time.

Emphatically yes, he was hilarious. Agree with the yin and yang comment and because he was so aggressive/suspicious of Dexter it kept me on my toes if he would catch him.

Very strange books. I need to finish the series at some point.

Yep, I bailed after the third one. The first two books were great but it went off the rails after that.

Any scene with Doakes was a scene I rolled my eyes and waited for it to be over.

On the other hand, it did give us that great Surprise MF vine.
This has been bugging me a bit, Doakes embraced the role whole heartedly. If he did it half-assed then sure, but he fully dedicated to the character. Almost a Samuel L Jackson dedication to the role, getting pissed off for no goddamn reason at all.

Season 2 was my favorite (I think? It's been so long) for the whole series at all, I can't think of anyone more dynamic than him. (Whatever season Doakes finished in)

Erik King was in OZ for a short time and I didn't catch it the first time because I had no idea who he was. Watching it agsin ten years after the fact, he was basically "Doakes" as a death row inmate.

I don't think he was overacting, i think he was just playing his "tough guy" role

Fun fact - they're filming in MA and we've sold several of our Christmas trees to be used on set. Will be somewhat cool to see our trees once it airs in the fall

It's not, but I still don't have high hopes.

I have a fondness for Dexter because I had just moved into my new house - and first time living alone - and I was a total slob marathoning through the series every weekend.

The only acceptable way for this to start is for Dexter to wake up from a coma and realize the last 2 seasons were a dream

I think the trailer does a great job of teasing. I might actually go back and watch this show, although Seasons 1 through 4 were the best.

From this newest trailer, I'm getting a vibe that he's going to play hero. Or defend against an attacker. I don't get a vibe that he's going serial killer again. Could be a misdirect on their end, but that would be interesting for sure. Then in the last episode he could go back to his old ways. /series

New location, probably mostly new characters. Same Dexter. The OG showrunner is back.

I'd be surprised if this wasn't at least decent. I wonder if they some how tie his son back into everything.

They've got to figure out how to bring Deb back, even if it's through flashbacks or the role his dad played in the first series.

I think I read somewhere she's signed on to be on the show in some capacity.

Her and Lithgow.
