You are right that I wouldn't consider a WRX but I would consider getting into another STI. I recently moved into a cul-de-sac house with angled garage that was making it difficult for me to get enough of a run to get my M2 up my driveway in winter and my next vehicle will be a car so AWD is probably a must for me. I wasn't crazy about the SUV hexagonal wheel arches on the Levorg and the plastic cladding makes it even worse. Also not a fan of the squinty eye headlights and front end that looks too much like the already dated looking VA. None of that is a deal breaker if the performance is there and obviously I will reserve judgement for the ultimate unveiling but but I'm a little disappointed that Subaru finally is going to offer an STI with a non-EJ engine and it comes on a car that seems to be morphing into some sort of sedan-CUV styling mishmash. Maybe the STI will get totally different treatment but I am not a fan of what I have seen from the WRX so far.

I drive a MK7 GLI DSG. I was thinking of a IS38 swap but the lack of traction is killing me, hence I have my eye on this new WRX. I don't want to spend 45 grand plus for na R or STI, not worth to me.

Get some sticky tires for it and only drive with them on.

My roommate has an MK7 GTI DSG and I convinced him to get Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires after his all-seasons kept slipping. He kept adding more power, so of course the car had a hard time hooking up. Now his GTI is even more fun... in a straight line.

I will but I also want swap out the wheels so I will do both at the same time. These OEM AS tires are a sad joke. Going with 235 too.

Straight line or on a circuit track. Not sure what the derp is for. DCC package plus wider and stickier wheel tire combo transforms the car completely.

They come with a VAQ diff, which is great but even with that and sticky rubber, you always know you are driving a FWD car. There is just something about a Subaru AWD system that is impossible to find elsewhere at this price point. This becomes very evident when you get to really push these cars.

I, personally, can tell the difference between pushing a FWD car at a corner and pushing AWD or RWD at a corner. FWD isn't for me, but the derp is because I know my roommate enjoys pushing his car on a straight line. Being pushed back in a seat is a good, ol' American fun, but I really like fighting to not slide out of a seat. BRZ had the greatest seats for that.

I don't think I'll ever make time to enjoy a car on a circuit track.

I agree. There's just something about the confidence I get with Subaru AWD that doesn't feel like anything else. The stability and control is why I came back to Subaru after an 09 WRX, 14 S4 and 17 M3. There's nothing like it for the price and even higher.

Exactly. It is untouchable at this price point. That it why they are so successful. When you know, you know.

That's sad Chano. We already got 5 track days on this thing with only 11k miles on the clock.

My cousin who is a few years old than me and got me into cars at an early age, has never done a track day or any other competitive event. For some people its just not their thing, nothing wrong with that.

I'm not sad for him. I'm sad for all of his nice cars he's had over the years.

I'm always sad for my cars too. My BRZ was the closest I've come to actually doing something competitive with it, but then I sold it. It did autox once, but I wasn't driving. I've spent the last 8 years prioritizing travel. It took a worldwide pandemic to slow me down, although I'm still expecting to visit Europe next year for my buddy's wedding in Germany. Gonna hit up Italy and France while I'm over there. There's only so much of the 50 states I can revisit. Time to move on!

I'm feeling increasingly more settled where I could see myself racing around a track just for fun. I've always wanted to test my mettle on a closed course. I'd love to take professional driving lessons sometime. I'm not competitive by nature, but I absolutely love challenging myself in hopes of becoming better, however that manifests itself.

Pre has a good point about this next round of cars being the last ones. They're so limited now. I strongly believe that if the next STI is a sedan again that I'll have to just deal with it as I really want a fun-to-drive manual AWD car to toy around with instead of toying with my daily driver. Having a 5-door would be a no-brainer. If having a manual isn't a requirement then I've also considered a Volvo V60 T6/T8 Polestar, but who knows. Closest thing I'd ever get to a Levorg. *Levorg tears*

If between the cars listed and the Legacy if you had to pay for the repairs yourself, which one would you want to pay for out of pocket? Same question for turning your own wrench.

No such thing as perfect reliability, at a certain point it gets to be a question of cost and complexity when the inevitable occurs. I may or may not have my S4 out of warranty, more than likely not. I would be less concerned about an STI out of warranty.

They lowered the rpm and added black plastic cladding? Unreal. I was already on the fence about giving up manual climate controls, but this is nuts. How long do we need to wait for the Sti? If they messed up the wrx this bad I'm not even sure if it's worth waiting for the Sti.

I am thinking mid-cycle refresh by Subaru will include full body paint. Going to dealer today to put deposit on 2025MY.

Might not even have to wait that long if people decide it sucks. Just like what Subaru tried to pass off for the 2008 WRX. Obviously the widebody didn't come until 2011, but they improved the handling and gave it more power.

Look at all them hatches.

Maybe the black plastic cladding will help bring back that rally feel that people have been crying about! Show me you're a rally car without showing me your rally car.

Subaru also doesn't make anything that small. Even if they offered a hatch, it would be a bloated heavy monster compared to those.

Except Rally America..

Just because it’s in WRC, doesn’t mean it’s the “type” of rally car that everyone would want to drive or that screams rally car to them. I’m sorry but a Ford Fiesta or Hyundai Veloster aren’t want I think of when you say rally car to me, yet there they are…

It's still called the WRX. And it has gotten bigger.

Oh and who won the championship in what car last year?

Quote:
Reigning American Rally Association presented by DirtFish National Champion Barry McKenna will make US rallying history this weekend when he starts the 100 Acre Wood Rally in the latest generation of World Rally Car.

McKenna, who will be co-driven by Leon Jordan, has acquired a Ford Fiesta WRC and in doing so becomes the first driver ever to pilot such a machine in the ARA.

Very few drivers out-with the World Rally Championship have ever driven the latest spec of WRC car, and McKenna is part of an even more exclusive club in actually owning the car.

The current generation of World Rally Car made its debut in rallying's top-tier in 2017 and produces upwards of 380hp and is around 25kg lighter than the previous 1.6-liter versions used in the 2011-2016 ruleset.

McKenna secured the ARA National title last year, driving a Ford Fiesta with a WRC engine, after finishing second to Subaru Motorsports USA driver Brandon Semenuk. McKenna had earlier made the switch to Ford power after driving most of the season in a ***352;koda Fabia R5+.
