What add-ons for XBMC are you referencing? Plex has a ton of add-on channels as well. List some of the popular ones, I don't really use any but I'm curious if they're available.

You can get the new Roku stick for cheap, and a refurb'd Roku 2 on Amazon for cheap these days. I spent a whole $45 on a refurb'd Roku for the bedroom, compiled with Plex and you'll not have an issue. We stream 2 roku's, a few family members off my Plex.

I returned that pretty quickly and just picked up the roku 3. Right away I could tell it was a better fit for someone looking to ditch cable. There's a ton of free channels that are really diverse. Much easier to "wander" into random cool stuff.
Good luck getting XBMC (with far FAR more free channels) to work on it. Here is a hint: It won't. Ever.

Icefilms and 1channel are the ones I use. And, no, they aren't on Plex sadly.

Quick search shows they are both available in the forums and people have it working.

Interesting. Those channels must have been added fairly recently because when I looked into it a few months ago they were not available.

Update: 1channel (called Let Me Watch This in the Plex channel) seems to be working pretty good through Plex. Unfortunately, Icefilms does not. It seems there are issues working with capchas mostly.

let us necro bump!

what are all of y'all using for streaming?

i use a plex account (via a friends server) for like 98% of my streaming needs. on my main tv about a year ago or so i started to run into issues with some movies on the plex server while trying to play... "An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again." any time after i try to play the same title i see the same.

my main tv/device is using a 2nd gen (i think, the last one w/ a ethernet port) amazon fire 4k tv. it's now starting to give the same error while watching TV shows. the fun part? i can try to fire up a tv show or movie that i'm in the middle of watching(or have watched previously) and it'll give the same error.

the titles that are giving the error play fine when watching from my phone, pc, tablet, other device via plex... it'll even pickup from the last watched spot even though my amazon fire tv box won't.

i know my fire tv is getting old... it gets rebooted almost daily, and still is pokey. the little amount of research i did when the problem first crept up on my fire tv was a "he said she said" scenario with amazon/plex pointing the finger at the other...

i'm looking for a new streaming device but the main thing is i need something wired. i live in an apartment and the wireless environment is all kinds of stepped on. sooo... i'm looking at a fire cube or roku ultra.

anyone have any input?

I've got the tube version of the Shield TV and it streams everything I've thrown at it via Plex or anything else really. The pro is supposed to be even better but for my needs the tube version is fine.
Also recently upgraded my Chromecast's to the new version with a remote and they've been pretty good for streaming everything so far. Haven't tried anything out of the normal via Plex though so can't comment on that.
The main TV that gets used with the Chromecast I put the official ethernet adapter on it and it works fine.
The Shield TV is faster at loading apps but for the price the Chromecast does fine.

I use the onboard WebOS apps on my LGs most of the time, but I also have an Apple TV 4k that's used primarily for Atmos music tracks on Tidal.

It's quite an interesting topic. I believe I can help you with this challenging problem. Indeed, it is tough to find used servers in good condition, which will work without issues for a short time and for a long time. I think you should check out the new system that allows you to create your home library of videos, pictures, and music for playback on any multimedia device connected to the network. To do this, you will need NAS for Plex Servers. It's a solution that works as a consistent, always-ready server for any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop on the network to access stored media for consumption.

I use FireTV quite a bit. In my mind it is better than Roku (of which I have several).

A media streaming device allows users to connect your Smart TV*or home theatre and lets you streaming content (video, music, films, and sporting events) through the use of a video Streaming provider or app. A smart TV is mainly a TV that has streaming applications and you do not need a smart TV to watch Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. Most popular streaming devices are able to stream such services to a previous HDTV or to a new 4K television. Amazon, Apple, Google, and Roku are the major models. A quality streaming VPN is worth having. First, a VPN Server allows you to access geo-restricted*material from services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max. Furthermore, a VPN can resolve frequent bandwidth throttling buffer problems. Next, you acquire the version of any*Torren software*which allows you to output straight to VLC and to slide this window to your TV with a good enough connection.

Yes, Amazon's device's*best-known streaming is the fire tv stick. It can transform any TV into a smart TV, allowing you to view movies and TV shows on the internet. It is also available in several versions, providing you with pricing and feature options. I am using a VPN on FireStick that is compatible with the different models.
