Have you tried just good ol' gun oil/ cleaner? Put it on, let it sit, rub off. I also hear WD40 and let sit for a day, then spray it own again and rub off. I guess it all depends on how deep the rust is.

Sandpaper, olive oil, then go to the gun shop and buy a new one.

Working on firearms is such a perishable skill. All week, we've been working with heavy weapons, not actual firing, but trying to expose new soldiers to them. Sometime in that, a part of our M2 fell down behind the bolt (a small exterior pin will let the arm fall). It took myself and 3 other people's combined brain power to break it down and reassemble it.

I was our troop armorer for the 5 years I was at Drum. I did so many quarterly inspections I could break down our M4s and M9s in my sleep. BUT we only had 2 M249s and I had to bust out the -10 every time.

Why is it so hard to find a flat(er) trigger shoe for a common pistol like an M&P? Everyone makes them for Glocks in every size/color/shape/flavor and budget. But for an M&P it's $175 for a full Apex kit and that's about it. It works fine otherwise, I just want the damn shoe.

Economies of scale. One of those is much more popular than the other.

Because it's like CUV's in the car market. Most have gone Glock because "it's the best thing ever invented" so the entire aftermarket revolves around Glock. I'm happy they even make night sights for my DA/SA pistols. Smith work I have to go to a real smith and pay the fiddler to get my triggers money. And there are zero flat triggers for them. Be happy you have an option at all.

For the firearms nerds, they're making a biopic of the inventor of the AK-47, Mr Kalashnikov himself

I'm building a P80 G17 and going as inexpensive as possible, really doing it just for the fun of making something.

I'm looking to buy an RMR cut slide that won't break the bank yet is also not a huge piece of out-of-spec crap. Any recommendations or brands/sites to stay away from? Complaints on Reddit have got me leaning away from a lot of the sub-$200 players but I've not read any complaints about the Brownells units for roughly $225 so I may go with one of those unless I hear otherwise.

Whenever I do the math, ghost guns always seem to be the same price or a little more than the actual gun its modeled after. Making the only advantage being the fact that it can be bought by someone who can't otherwise purchase the real thing.

True of course. This thing is going to cost me about $600 when all is said and done, without magazines, and that was with using the cheapest parts I could find save for a red dot ready slide. Even nowadays you can still find deals on decent pistols for $500 or less. But I don't want to build one to save money or hide it from Joe Biden, I just like making stuff.

I received my Brownells-branded slide parts and Polymer80-branded frame parts today. I'm pleasantly surprised how decent everything looks. I thought the metals would be rough and the plastics would be cheap but everything looks good. I removed some plastic flashing and burrs here and there but OEM Glock parts need the same thing so I'm not knocking these aftermarket bits.

Of course, it couldn't be problem-free. The trigger return spring is missing and I received two mag catch springs so that's going to need to be sorted out. We'll see how Brownells handles it.

[First a little ammo anecdote]

Stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse this morning at opening (9am) to grab some 17 HMR (which they still have a ton of), and encountered a line halfway across the store for ammo. At least 30 people.

Nope'd out of that, but chatted with a guy walking out with a box of 1000 9mm he had just scored. Apparently this local store updates when the shipments are coming in on Facebook, so then the entire county shows up. However, the usual restrictions still apply: something like 2 small boxes OR 1 large box restriction per caliber, per person.

I stopped by again around 11AM, line was still probably 20 people.

Stopped again on my way home after work around closing (7:30pm), no line, and still got a couple boxes of 308, plus some really cheap 22lr and a "large" box of 17 HMR.

So today people were waiting in line for what the guys at the store said 5 HOURS, to still be limited probably to 2 small boxes of whatever they're looking for after the first few folks buy up the large boxes.

Insane.

Anyway, so I think I'm gonna grab the Ruger American Rimfire 17HMR at that same store, ~$300. I'm waiting on a 17HMR barrel from Lothar-Walther for my CZ 457 still, but want to start using these plentiful rounds. Some reviewers had extraction issues with the Ruger 17HMR, but mostly seemed to go away after putting some rounds through the new rifles. Anybody tried the Ruger out in a 17?

ran out room for rifles and couldn't find a decent quick access rifle cabinet, so i bought a 24"x48"x72" steel cabinet with an electronic lock instead. i have another shelf i can toss in and if i need more room i can just put 2 rifles on each shelf. waiting on more peel and stick carpet to finish it up.

Any recommendations on websites for selling firearms besides gunbroker and arms list? There used to be a local one but I guess the guys that ran it had a falling out and now I can’t get in and post.
