Ebay Vbands
I'm currently working on getting my pieces together for fabricating my downpipe and up pipe for my hx35 rotated build this winter.
Now I need a few sets of vband flanges and clamps and really don't feel like paying the astronomical price that Vibrant charges. On ebay I can pick up a set for 1/3 of the price which I much prefer. Does anyone have any experience with using the ebay vband setups? Advice? Input? Ps. I'm also looking for a flex pipe section for my downpipe. My friend has one from vibrant that seems like decent quality but they can be had on ebay for half the price. But the question is are they the same quality as the vibrant unit....? Any experience with these either?

i have used them a bunch, just make sure when you get them that they say that the actual parts are stainless. i know a few on ebay have stainless bands, but not the V parts.

I really wouldnt bother with a flexpipe in the downpipe, as it will just break and leak over time. If you are welding your own exhaust just take the extra time to have it fit right.

Do you have a certain ebay merchant that you always buy them from Paranoid? Also, are all vband flanges the same? As in will an ebay flange mate properly with the vband hotside on my turbo that's purchased from Tim's turbo?
I was thinking about just doing a solid downpipe, but was unsure since I will have a EL header and up pipe with no flex sections. Do you think I would run into any issues having everything solid? I will have a brace on the up pipe to the block and a brace on the downpipe also. |

If you are going to have braces i wouldnt worry about it. Exhaust hangers will allow enough flex.

As far as exhaust v-bands there are different styles and manufacturers and they are not made to a 'standard'. If you're not certain what you've got buy 'kits' (a clamp and 2 flanges). Otherwise you can gave connections that don't align properly or seal correctly. |

vibrant sells decent ones for a good price. just buy those.
also a flex section is a good idea. its not about having a good fit...well it is and its really important but a flex section isnt put in place because of **** fitment. its there because the engine moves and torques and it allows flexibility. in the exhaust |

great info, thx!!!
Now as far as flex sections. Ive noticed that vibrant makes flex bellows that won't leak like the woven flex pipes occasionally do. Anyone have experience with these? Im thinking solid Uppipe, flex bellow in rerouted WG dump tube, and solid DP. Im still thinking of putting a flex pipe at the end of the DP to allow some movement. Thoughts? |

vibrant flex sections work great imho. i use them all the time but i usually dont built subarus. however i will say this.... i do a lot of work on the lnf/lhu/ldk/lsj and new DI motors. so far the vibrant flex sections are holding up well and i cannot complain.

Ive used quite a few stainless v-band kits off amazon for like 20 bucks. My only complaint is that they are flat, not male/female like the vibrant kits. They work fine, but since they dont have that little lip they can be a pain to line up straight.

most v-bands are like that. Your supposed to protrude the tube out of one side and recess it in the other to make your male/female ends align

No problem. Here's a pic of the male side. Other side the tube would be recessed...
