Just finished watching the DVR of this race. I am a Max fan over Lewis, so the outcome was satisfying. Certainly an interesting start and finish to the race.

Many things I can say, and many things I wont....But most disappointed in the lack of donuts on track and to see Kimi end a career that way.
As gutted as I am for Lewis, he always wanted this for the sport, to have a new young driver come aboard and fight hard. Himself, Vettel, Alonso, & Kimi were all part of that something special on the grid;now Max joined the club. It's on!! I look forward to the new cars, new team lineups, new drivers, and a (hopefully) consistent FIA. Last edited by Notbrick; 12-28-2021 at 02:57 PM. |

It was a farce of a result for TV views. Blatant disregard of the rules.

There's a lot to talk about with that result. Most of it has ben covered, but did anyone notice at the end of the coverage, they replayed the audio between Race Control and Toto? Toto was shouting that this isn't right, and Race Control's comment was "It's a motor race, Toto."
...But it still wasn't. The race was still decided by Race Control, regardless of if it was a green flag at the end or not. I'm a Max fan, but I wanted to see a good race to decide the championship. From that perspective, I was disappointed. By the end of the race, their strategies set each team up for a win, depending on how the restart would have gone. And as I see it, Race Control just picked a winner. On the other hand, Lewis raced Max super clean on that last lap, which is commendable. But he could have been more aggressive in defending. There was a championship on the line, Max drove like he wanted it, while Lewis drove like he was waiting for a ruling. He was, but he could have closed the door more aggressively. |

The tie-breaker (most wins) would have gone to Max. |

Right, he would have lost the championship if they both crashed, but he would have lost the championship if he raced clean because Max had fresh tires. So the only option would be to do maximum defense and hope to come out on the winning side of it. Imagine if it were Michael Schumacher, I would expect that he would take out his own rear left to take out the opponent's front wing. I bet Fernando or Vettel would do something like that too.

IMO it's about time HAM/M-B not get a lucky break. OTOH, FIA does need to get consistent with enforcing rules. Sad to see Kimi end his career like that...
Look forward to seeing how next year plays out and hoping Russell snatches another WDC away from Hamilton ala Rosberg (but then again look how M-B ****** Bottas at times). |

Maybe this was payback for Lewis hip checking Max out of the Silverstone race.

Everyone keeps bringing up the Silverstone thing.
Which was kind of the exact same lunge that Max made in this race, difference being Hamilton instead ran off track to avoid it? |

However I think big takeaway is that the FIA needs to have tracks reevaluate the bollards and conditions that drivers must take to join the track. Both Jeddah Turn 1 & Yas Marina Turn 6 both had implications to how a driver should approach the track for missing the turn. |

It works, but it works by trapping the car. It wouldn't be harmless anymore to run wide. The argument was that it would end this current "time deleted for track limits" thing we have now. |

I think many of us can agree that more needs to be done to minimize the many 'interpretations' of the rules and let the racing actually happen. |

I love gravel or grass to be immediately on the outer edge of the white line, that was how racing was born and it has gotten further and further away from providing a true downside to running 98% of your car over that white line. I did read something suggesting an electronic limiter that would kick on for a few seconds if the car runs over the white line fully and I think given the resistance of tracks to run gravel of grass (testing is a big part of track usage and they tend to flock to tracks with lots of pavement) that is the likely attempt at a solution. But nothing tells a driver to STAY ON TRACK like a gravel pit!!! |

Agreed! You know I enjoy watching IndyCar as well. I am amazed at how durable those cars are. Indy can bang into eachother and keep moving along. New regulations (which is more just a collection of previous banned technologies and designs) should help with that and get away from so much carbon thrown about the place and get back to tighter racing.

Looks like Mercedes (the race team) has withdrawn its appeal.
https://twitter.com/MercedesAMGF1 I thought from the start that Mercedes (the car company) might not want to carry this out to the end. Bad optics. |

I feel they had to do both. Mercedes was not the only team confused by what occurred. Being the top team this year, they were the ones who had to step up and appeal, if only to just get conversation rolling in an official manner. Its the unfortunate politics of this sport at play, you have to make a threat in order to start a conversation.

Truly an unsatisfying end to an otherwise very good season. Next year will hopefully be just as competitive....hopefully McLaren will be more competitive!

I agree. The Race just put out a video about the tokens that McLaren had to use. They essentially used them all in the beginning of the season just to get the Mercedes in there. I hope next year is strong for them.
