Clifford Matrix RS 3 (2 way pager)
I was just reading about the Viper 790XV / Clifford Matrix RS 3, but I noticed it had an Auto Transmission requirement. Is there anything similar to this with this many features for a Manual Transmission car? I know the Compustar 2WSSR has Manual Transmission support, but it doesn't state it has the FCC-legal 2-Way Remote with 66-Bit Clone-Safe Code-Hopping. Does this 66-Bit Clone-Safe Code-Hopping matter or is this a gimmick?

Re: Clifford Matrix RS 3 (2 way pager)
depending on the dealer/installer the viper 790xv / clifford matrix rs3(rebadged 790xv with 2 lcd remotes) can be installed safely on the manual transmission version of the wrx.
code hopping should be a standard feature to prevent someone from cloning your remote signal and using it to disarm your vehicle. there should be a ultimate remote start thread in the sticky of this forum. netZ Quote:

Almost all of these systems can be used with a manual transmissions with some extra wiring. Dealers often won't do them for several reasons. One is cost. They can do three or four automatics in the time it takes to do a manual. Secondly there are more liability issus with manuals. If you do find a place that would selll you the unit they may not come with much in the way of instructions. I meant this as a general answer. I dont anything about this particular model.

I sell the matrix RS 3 at work.. ( best buy car fi) and it WILL work on a manual transmission.. hard part is getting someone to install it.. most people that know how wont because the place they work will fire them for doing an illegal install if they find out... at best buy they wont do it because they had a few problems where people left the car in 1st.. started it and it jumped and caused accidents. So they quit doin it.. But it will work on a manual tranny.

What kind of car do you have? The WRX's have a neutral position wire that can be hooked up to the remote starter preventing it from starting in gear. I'm not sure what other cars have a similar wire, but they could be easily checked with a service manual.

sorry to go ot, might be a dumb question as well, cause i'm not into stereo/alarm systems that much...
Is the Clifford Matrix 3, Viper 790 and the Python 880 really the same thing but just different names? |

Python and Viper are the same. The only difference I know of with the Clifford is the LED is blue and there is a different shock sensor.

The Clifford RS3 comes with 1 (edited) LCD 2 way remotes, the 790XV comes with 1 LCD 2 way remote as well. The 3 systems are essentially the same.
The real design flaw behind these products is it lacks a 'normally open' Starter Kill system. You can easily defeat a Viper alarm by disconnecting the alarm brain. This is what they call 'FailSafe Starter Kill'! Other alarm systems offer a 'normally open' Starter Kill and disconnecting the alarm brain will not allow the vehicle to start unless the thief can locate the Starter Kill relay and wiring. Starter kills are totally useless on vehicles with a Manual Transmission in my opinion, just pop the Ignition Lock and push start the car and you can drive it all you want! If you are worried about this, install an Ignition Kill relay setup and this will prevent someone from push starting your vehicle. Other alarm systems that are worth mentioning are the Clifford Solaris which has a dual point immobilisation (starter & ignition) & the Clifford Avantguard 4 which has 3 point immobilisation (starter, ignition & wireless immobiliser). The AG4 is worth mentioning b/c it includes a battery backup siren, digital tilt sensor, proximity sensor, black jax etc... If the AG4 is too extreme for you, just install one of the 3 DEI Responder systems with a passive Ignition Kill or install the Clifford Black Jax4 standalone unit. This device is fantastic! Everytime you open the door, it requires you to enter the PIN number via the 2 button valet switch. If the incorrect PIN is entered the Black Jax4 will 'stagger pulse' the Ignition wire to slow the vehicle down and flash the Brake Lights at the same time! netZ Quote:

my installer did the remote start setup on mine and used a relay to bypass the clutch just for the remote start. works great!

no need for relay... the dei units have a blue status output that sends ground when remote start/valet take over modes are activated... you tap it to the clutch switch that unlocks the starter interlock.
thanks! netZ Quote:
