I played Northwood Golf Course in Monte Rio, California today with a buddy. Per the course info:

Quote:
Northwood Golf Course combines the magic of the architecture of Dr. Alister MacKenzie (Augusta National, Pasatiempo, Cypress Point) set amidst towering Redwood trees. It's like nothing you have played before, and prompted Travelin' Joe Passov of Golf Magazine to place Northwood on his top-5 MacKenzie courses... in the world!
It wasn't a long course, but it is narrow and lined with enormous redwood trees. It very much suited my driver fade, as it had several dog-leg right par 4s where I could just rip around the curve.

6 over on the first nine, 2 over on the back nine, for a personal best 80. Back nine actually had two birdies, but also a dirty double when I just clipped a branch and it spit me at the base of a 15' diameter redwood. I had to actually punch out backwards about 30 yards to get a shot.

Great weather, great course, great friend to play with.

And .... we're off! After a storm delay, it's nice and sunny in Augusta.

Very nice to watch the streaming, QUIET, no soundtrack over the action like on pga tv.

Hear everything. Oost, Rahm and DCB is the 1st featured grouping, with DCB hitting a 320yds, 3wood. Damn. Streaming on masters.com now, and OMG set up for a nice wedge, on the green spin back and about 2-3 feet from the hole for birdy putt.

I sure would not want to start on 10 and have Amen Corner right off the bat. No thanks.

I'm loving watching this on the app/site and not ESPN. NO ANNOUNCERS. Just the players/entourage and the golf. QUIET.

Happy I didn't pony up to their streaming service.

Double for Bryson at 13.

I can't stand watching that stupid straight arm putting stance.

I kind of wish there was a little commentary on the stream. I can't watch it full time from my desk (TV is behind me) so its impossible to know if anything interesting happens without at least a little announcing.

definitely didn't mind being unemployed today. Watched the coverage pretty much start to finish. Will do again tomorrow.

Absolutely love the different camera angles and the drone cameras.

Yeah, the coverage this year has been kicked up a bit. May be because of no public to walk around or restrictions because "they put a grandstand where it would be cool to put a camera."

And not a hiccup tech-wise. Has been great quality, uninterrupted.

20 min for the continuation of the 1st round. Finish in the dark, start in the dark. Sunrise is at 6:57. Those trees? It's still dark.

I hope JT keeps it going finishing this morning, should continue to be good scoring conditions today. I am playing 18 this morning with the fellas, then lunch and hang out watching The Masters, then the wife and I are playing 9 at about 2:30.

Due to the time change and one rainy weekend, I have lost all ability to hit my irons. I played today and had to plan my hybrid and 3 wood approaches. Hybrids felt super good, but when it came to any iron, I was lost. I really need to get back to the range on a more consistent basis. 47 on the front and many lost balls on the back, so I stopped keeping score with lots of doubles and triples. Still, had fun since it was the first time I have been outside for that long in about 10 days. I made a birdie on a par 5 and felt like I knew what I was doing for a few holes there.

We have one car, so when the lady takes it to work, I don't bother going to the night range at 6pm since it's packed and Covid is on the rise.

Thinking I may get a net for the yard and a launch monitor over the winter versus more lessons but the cheapest "good" monitor is still pretty pricey, so I am unsure what way to go.

Cruise over to golfwrx and check out some of the equipment articles, and WITB articles. Bernhard Langer's iron makeup is amazing.

Went to the range and worked on my irons. Literally forgot how to hit them but getting back to basics. I had to put down alignment sticks down and it helped but OMG levels of frustrating. Smashing drives 230 straight every time though. 3 wood 200. 3 and 4 hybrids 160-180. Chipping really well. Maybe I'm setting up behind the ball with my irons. Scheduling some lessons and going to work on my swing in the backyard.

I was really frustrated with my Taylormade bag and bought a 14 slot Datrek bag today. Very nice quality for the money.

And congrats to DJ for making it into the club, and being the Masters Champion for all of 5 months until the next one is crowned.
