This, and read the advertisements posted on the boards at gyms for the local running clubs, and whatever group athletic adventures. There are a lot of people out there like you.

I... unfortunately am not one of them. That said, my level of partying is nowhere near what it once was. I was blessed with the "no hangover" body. My family has a long line of alcoholics in it (probably due to this condition). Literally, I've NEVER vomited the following day after drinking, and those that know me on here, especially from the early days, knows that I've been known to throw back more than a couple.

Today, I'll have a beer or three, and call it a day, like once every other week. Having a kid has changed my life for the better, and no alcohol is ever consumed around the child, or when I'm planning to be near the child.

Gave up drugs back in the 70s but then lost EVERYTHING thanks to the bottle; wife, jobs, housing, transportation, respect, you name it. Turned it around and have been sober since 28 Apr 1992. The 2nd wife recently celebrated 22 years sober.

I've been going back and forth for a couple of weeks about quitting drinking. Sunday, I received quite the surprise of an intervention of sort. Not the kind with a Dr. or anything like that. More the Irish kind where people just yelled at me saying I can't quit and I'm not doing anything good with my life.

I was (am, not since Sunday) a heavy drinker. There's no doubt and I could certainly slow down. Between yesterday and so far today, I don't miss the booze so much but I am ****ing bored. I guess I need to take all this money I'll save and try and get back into a hobby or something.

There has been no physical ramification other than I sleep better. No shakes or anything like that but I will do what my wife and family ask and quit.

Not saying that I am and that I won't slip but keeping my family is more important.

So serious question to those of you that used to drink and now don't***8203; at all ever:

Do you just have poor self control or some sort of personality flaw or have demons that the drink let's out?

I realize how insulting that question sounds, albeit not intended. Better to know yourself, admit your flaws and take the action needed than let an addiction ruin your life, so more power to you. I'm honestly just curious.

Can't speak for others. I used to drink/party pretty hard and just naturally slowed down over the years. Im not saying I don't drink but its very rare, and its more rare when I get pretty drunk. I do have a sort of frank the tank personality with drinking. If the shots start coming its hard to not to get pretty drunk. Ive always been responsible enough to know when Im on the black out line and get myself home with out driving.

Reality is, when 25 hit hang overs became terrible. My last hangover was three days My lifestyle has changed, I would rather be up early feeling good headed to the mountains for snowboarding or an early morning wakeboard set before work. Hell, I would rather be up at 6 am on the weekends enjoying a cup of coffee and chores over a late night of drinking these days. I have a dog too and typically work weekends. Its not fair to my little guy to be gone all day at work then come home for an hour or two and head out for the night. So no, not really any demons. I've been told I am a fun drunk but its lifestyle and priority changes.

C/N: Hang overs suck after 25 and prefer an active lifestyle to sitting inside hung over netflix binging.

it's not all together a controll issue. those of us that identify as alcoholics are aware of our increased craving for alcohol as we continue to drink. just a single drink, for some of us, will trigger the craving. such a strange disease, as long as I don't put the first one back, I don't want any, but once I start there isvery little chance I will stop before I'm drunk. it's like they say, "one is too many, but one hundred is not enough."

I'll drink for awhile then stop, then drink for awhile and stop again. Right now I'm in the stopped phase, don't want a drop. When I do drink, it's every night.

When I was younger I used to get terrible hangovers. I don't get hangovers anymore. I've never missed a day of work due to drinking but have shown up half **** faced from the night before many times.

Everyday, I tell myself I'm stopping to pick up beer on the way home, but don't.

(Boy that looks bad when I read it)

Relate-able, all but the every night thing....but there's times I'll go for months without even thinking about stopping at the store.
