Shinola was actually created by the founder of Fossil watches. Make of that as you wish. Swiss movement is a nice touch but at least give the option for automatics.

I went on a cruise. They had a lot of watches for sale. I didn't buy one.

It really is an old-time saying isn't it? I think I've heard my dad say it, and he said it was an old saying when he was a kid.

You know, I've never been on a cruise but you both just enlightened me to an aspect of it that I didn't even think about. When you're on a cruise ship, you're just a big walking skin wallet inside a giant floating shopping mall, aren't you?

Thus the rolex milgauss.

And a auto winder case.

For me it is about the mechanics of the thing.

I dont mind having them cleaned and serviced... everyone needs a good cleaning and servicing every once in a while.

There were no prices on anything and I don't know enough to determine if what I'm being told for a price was a good one. And no cell service

It helps to have some prices in mind for things you've already looked at. The lack of WiFi and cell service is a serious setback though go some of the more unique pieces.

Can anyone shed some light on its age? It keeps time very well and I have it in my weekly rotation now. It's a Lucerne Automatic.

Maybe. I have tried to research Lucerne labeled watches, and they seem to have no direct affiliation with any particular company.

I was thinking 60's with the styling. The case doesn't look funky enough to be from the 70's.

Anyone care to date this Elgin I snagged at a yard sale for $3? Threw a band on it I had around. The old one was trashed. It's a manual wind, but keeps near perfect time. Full wind lasts about two days. Yes, I've been told this one is ugly, but there's something about the worn look I like.

I'm really starting to like collecting vintage watches...

My guess is mid to late 50's. Maybe early 60's. Movement appears to be a Jeambrun 23D.

Yep, you have the movement right!

From what I have found, that movement was widely used in the mid sixties.

It was used in the 50's too. Hard to know but I'm sure there are some minor differences in the movement. There is a guy on WUS that is pretty good at dating watches.

The movement almost had me fooled. Originally thought it was a AS movement.

I was looking at that today. Very nice. The closest thing you can get to a new Sinn Arktis. Price isn't too bad either.

Sold the Sea Dweller. No more old Rolexes for me. Love the watch head, can't stand the bracelet.
