They charge you a broadcast fee even if you don't have X1/TV boxes?

Comcast charges fees for breathing, they just change the names of the fees so you don't notice.

Since this is the Comcast complaint thread I'll drop my recent nightmare with them.

We went out on a Sunday morning and came back to an outage, went on the app to see the notification that it would be fixed within 3 hours, fine no big deal, scheduled time comes around and it gets extended by an hour then another hour, then 4 hours more, that comes around and nothing, by then it's close to 10pm and the app says 2 am it'll be back on so I go to bed. Wake up the next day and the same deal, it says 9 am then keeps getting extended by 3 hours every time the estimated end time comes around. By this time I'm fed up and call Customer service but getting a live person is a PITA everytime.

I speak to at least 7 or 8 reps with each giving me the same BS every time. I decide to take a trip around the neighborhood to see some downed lines and 2 Comcast trucks on two separate blocks holding wires up with the cherry picker buckets up in the air so cars can get by and no cars around. I keep calling and finally got a rep that told me 3 poles went down and that they were working on it. I told her I saw the trucks but at this point the same trucks have been around for a full day with no techs in sight.

After she does some more digging apparently Comcast was refusing to fix the poles because they weren't sure if they were responsible for these poles or if Florida power and light was responsible for them. Great. So I get "oh don't worry well credit you $20 for the outage" and I proceed to rage yell "I DONT GIVE A ***** ABOUT A $20 CREDIT I JUST WANT MY SERVICE THAT I PAY $250 A MONTH FOR TO WORK.

Another day of this goes by till I call again and proceed to immediately ask the rep to get her supervisor on and figure out what's going on. This is day 3 with no update on the situation whatsoever and the same trucks parked down the street.

This supervisor immediately got a tech out to run a temp line from a separate set of poles to my house and my service was restored. It's now been about 4 weeks and the same trucks are still parked down the street holding the lines up in the air and no poles have been fixed. Absolutely ridiculous.

TLDR: **** COMCAST. To have to kick and yell on the phone like a 4 year old to even get an update 3 days later on an outage is ridiculous.

Damn! I wasn't expecting to read that it's been 4 weeks and still no service.

I wonder how your neighbors are dealing with it. I mean a lot of people work from home I'm sure.

Do yourself a favor and don't search for any of my posts in this thread if you don't want more rage.

Consider yourself lucky that Comcast didn't bill you for repairing the poles that are way down the street on someone else's property and serve the whole neighborhood.

Cause yeah, that happened to me.

Yup, quite a few people working from home currently including my self occasionally, which is why I made such a big deal about it to them, not to mention my kids were driving me nuts about it.

This is the situation on 2 different blocks.

Here's my latest saga with Comcast.

Backstory:
We had Comcast biz class for a while. Comes with guarantees for repair & downtime of less than 24hrs. It was expensive, and speeds were way below even the cheapest residential plan.

5 yrs ago, a big storm hits. Outages everywhere. Ok Comcast, what about my guaranteed no more than 24hr downtime? Nope...got treated like any other residential customer and was out 2 weeks. Spent years paying for benefits they never intended to provide.

So we said eff that and switched to a plan that was about $75/mo cheaper and about 4x better speeds.

In typical Comcast fashion, even though we switched plans, they continued to bill us for both the new plan and the biz plan. My wife caught the error a month later, got it fixed, and Comcast refunded us for the biz plan amount.

Today:
Get letter from attorneys saying they have been contracted by Comcast to collect unpaid bills. We owe $200 for the biz class service...that we canceled and in the exact amount Comcast refunded.

So that's yet another ridiculous random hassle from Comcast that we'll have to deal with.

I'd also like to point out Comcast's official policy is that they'll only correct billing errors where you got overcharged within 90 days of the bill. If you don't notice for 6 months they eff'd you for $500, tough titties.

But apparently that doesn't apply when Comcast thinks the error is in their favor.

we recently upgraded our business comcast connection at the coffee shop.

I finally can set up IP reservations in the DHCP environment.

I suspect this is a bit of Stockholm syndrome, I really shouldn't be this pleased that they can finally do something that everyone else already does, and that I've been wanting them to be able to do since I opened nearly 7 years ago.

it doesn't make it right, but this is standard business practice everywhere.

we have to explain to our customers that our terms are net30 when someone issues us a PO, yet, we demand net90 when we are issuing a PO.

the difference is, B2B vs B2C, so that makes it extra spicy ****.

The equipment didn't allow that level of configuration, and they wouldn't upgrade our equipment to accommodate our needs

i know nothing about the size of your shop or your companies needs...

but christ it's a business class connection. tell them to make their modem transparent/bridged and drop a router behind it. a $100 linksys soho modem from twenty years ago could do ip reservations on dhcp.

You have to understand Comcast's "business class" service tiers.

We had it for years.

About the only thing it got you were static IPs and tissue paper 'guarantee' about resolving service disruptions in less than 24hrs.

They count on apathetic copy/paste budgeting in a small biz to keep paying for the same connection year after year. No upgrades, and no competition to provide better service.

We finally dropped it when it went down for over 2 weeks and found out the guarantee was garbage.

We went from a $100/mo 10Mbps connection to a residential tier 500Gbps connection for $50/mo. And they've continued to push up the speed to 1Gbps.

Finally got a good deal from those ***** - translation: got fair market price. Blast Pro + 400Mbps, unlimited data, Peackock, and flex device (ghetto version of Amazon FireStick) for $50 month. Just need to watch in 1 years time as data and modem charges begin, and that'll take another hour out of my time renegotiating.

I'm replying to an old post here; not Comcast (or cable) related, but ATT also does that with their wireless charges. If you catch something and it happened more than 2 months or so back, you're screwed. Even if you called a while back and they never fixed it, they'll claim that don't have a record of you calling, and hence, double screwed.

That was about the time my wife started using the online chat with Comcast and screenshotting the sessions.

Those got whipped out when we had to get the FCC involved.

Yep, when I had issues with ATT not honoring a contract, I screenshot and wrote everything down. FCC and states' attorneys general of my state and their home office got emails identical to the one I sent to the BBB for shiggles. 2 days passed before I got a call from some VP.

My Comcast contract is up this month. I get to look for a new provider or call them up for a promotional pricing again.

A new challenger has appeared!
Consolidated Comm has fiber for my town and my house specifically. Faster, cheaper, betterrer? Whats not to like?

I go over to Comcast to see what promotional pricing they got. XFinity pricing is much cheaper and speed is faster than a year ago when I moved in. Guess competition really is good for business customers.

Ill have to make some calls on Fri, see who gets my the business.

What does everybody use for a modem? I need to retire my surfboard, since it'll be time for me to re-up my contract and I get get 800mb for the same price as my current 200mb. I was about to buy the SB8200, but the reviews seem to point to issues specifically with Comcast.
