I actually don't think the 996 headlights are terrible. It's the bumper combination that makes them look bad. Good: Bad: But the 996 Turbo back ends hnnnngggg

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...e-scoring.html I talked to a few shop owners in the region and they said they saw more of the 3.8L engines with it than the 3.4L, but it definitely necessitates a rebuild if it happens. Of course, something to consider is that even though it is a potential expensive issue, it still probably only affects a small percentage of cars. You could get it scoped to see if it's exhibiting and scoring prior to purchase |

Finally got around to filming my Macan review... I'm no professional, but I gave it a shot.
Also, not bad MPG for a back road trip like this |

Well done Kosta! nice and thorough with helpful insight into a bunch of areas. With the versatility it affords you, the Macan really is a terrific platform. It definitely feels much more hot hatch as compared to the Audi or BMW variants which, to me, feel like small SUV's. And yes, you are spending more money on the P-car, but you definitely notice the difference in drive quality and interior fit and finish.

That was a good review Kosta, but you said a potty word. I'm glad you like the car, it's great to like what you have to drive.
Yore MPG is really good especially if you drive spiritedly. Yesterday for the first time I tracked the MPG on my kids truck.......12.3, good thing it never goes too far. Last edited by sixty3; 11-05-2020 at 11:56 AM. |

Volunteered my car for a friend's detailing business promo video and got a significantly discounted 5 yr Ceramic Pro paint treatment job done.
received_728166987809653 by Ed Kwon, on Flickr Plus the rear flank PPF were getting nasty from road tar and rock damage and had those pieces stripped and replaced with much larger PPF cutouts with better coverage of rear haunches. received_1290912597937690 by Ed Kwon, on Flickr |

I will get somewhere in the low 20's on a longer road trip when heading from Phoenix to CA (I blast through the desert at about 90 for large portions of that drive) and we will get around 15-16 mpg if we use the entire tank in city driving. Solid review though! However I have 2 comments: 1 - I disagree with you to an extent on the base vs. s. The base feels like you're driving a VW with a different badge. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it just doesn't scream Porsche (nor does it even really feel like Porsche) to me. The motor (the responsiveness, the feel, the sound, etc.) feels more Audi A4 than it does anything Porsche. I'd have a hard time paying the premium for the Porsche badge on a base macan when there are similar options for a decent amount less. Then again, when we bought the Turbo we only compared the S, GTS and Turbo... My experience with the base is through loaners when our's is getting serviced. The jump from a base to a turbo is wildly different. So that will drastically impact my bias. 2 - You pronounced Porsche wrong lol I absolutely love the Macan platform overall. IMO the Macan Turbo might be the best 'do everything' vehicle on the road. |

I removed a summers worth of tar from the 911 just in front of the rear wheels Unfortunately mine is parked for the winter The PPF is still in pretty decent shape, but man was there a lot of tar. The ceramic coating makes it much easier to clean Looks great! |

Right, but its essentially the same engine (a 2.0L 4cyl) and transmission (PDK). Just curious if your views on those changed based on more seat time or the platform, or maybe you feel the I4 is than much different than the B4. Not nitpicking, just curious

The Boxster is up against other Porsche sports cars, Corvettes, Miatas, etc. While the Macan is up against crossovers and SUVs plus I would even argue hot hatches. Looking at the Boxster I was focused on driving enjoyment and I didnt get what I would say was a $70k sports car driving experience... The Macan on the other hand, delivers a better experience than its competition and very much worthwhile of its $55k price tag. I also like the engine/exhaust note more than the Boxster and the interior plus infotainment is better too. Plus the PDK in the Boxster is quite different than the DSG in the Macan. I do think the Boxster shifts better though, but the dual clutch in the Macan makes for a better transmission experience than its SUV competition and very much like say a Golf R DSG. |

The transmissions in the 718 and 911 are Porsche exclusive units. Call those PDK because they actually are. |

Unless they changed that recently but I remember this being a point of emphasis from Porsche as a way to differentiate it from the Q5. |

But the PDK in the Macan (and the Pano) was specifically developed by Porsche for the Macan. It’s not shared. The DSG in the GTI/Golf R and Audi platforms might be close but it’s not the same transmission. The cayenne also doesn’t even have PDK. A huge benefit to the Macan over the cayenne is the transmission. I haven’t driven the new cayenne with their updated ZF (I’ve heard it’s significantly better) but the one in the previous gen was absolute trash. Saying it’s the same as the Audi and is all Porsche marketing is like Clarkson saying the 911 is a Beetle. |

To be specific, the gearing and transfer case (IE Center differential in Subaru speak) are different, which is pretty obvious due to the power delivery. But the valve body, dual clutch apparatus, and the design of the transmission are identical. With more research, these are both ZF designed units and not in-house. Calling this transmission a PDK is like calling the Toyota GT86 transmission a Toyota engine... Its just not. |

The current A4 7 speed dsg (previous gen sq5 also used it i think) and zf 8 speed (S4/S5/Sq5,etc) are both very good. I have the 8 speed in my S4 and my wife has the 7 speed in her A4. The 7 speed is just as smooth and feels a little lighter on its feet and more responsive. The 8 speed gives you some torque shock at high torque input shifts so it feels a little sportier. Both are excellent and each has its advantages. I think porsche usues the same units but programs them a little different.

I'm selling my BRZ and finally thinking of a Cayman and strongly leaning towards a 718 T with a manual which seems to be factory order only. Python Green with the Lizard green standard interior.
It doesn't look like they allocate any of these to dealer lots so I'll likely need to check out a base model with Sport Chrono and PASM which are practically non-existent in my area (Boston metro area). Do any of you have any first hand experience especially coming from either an STI or BRZ? On the other hand I'm also strongly considering a ZL1 1LE too.. |

There are a couple Cayman T's on lots now, most are listed as "base" models though.
Go test drive a used Cayman at a dealer if you can to get a feel for what they are like compared to an STI or BRZ. I owned both and its pretty hard to describe the differences. |
