Default Datsun 240Z. Want.

I can haz?

'73 Datsun 240Z. Sitting about a block away from my apartment. $6200 obo. 90k original miles. Looks like it's in pretty good shape outside, inside too. It's an auto(bleh) but it's such a sweet little ride!

Experiences? Comments? Who's owned one?

Oh yeah, this car is 8 years older than me.

Remove I6, place LS1+T56, Profit!
When I have the money and space I will be doing this. It's been a dream since I was 10.

Is there a reason the rear axle looks tweaked pushing the rear tire forward?

Ive been eye balling those for awhile now. Rust is a major problem on most. My biology teacher in high school had one in white, such a nice car. I don't have a garage to put one in though

Eh, I once bought a dream car yet the crux of it all was that it was auto.... and I regret it.

There are plenty others out there, just keep on looking.

$6200? HA, there's a **** ton around here in AZ that just need paint jobs, half of them have all ready been through the salvage yards and crushed. I sold a manual that ran for $500 no title.

I would pay $6200 for one with a swapped drivetrain, you could buy one for $1000 and spend $5200 on making it a new car with whatever drivetrain you wanted.

On a hunch, i seached for and found the craigslist post for it. Not much more info. But its such a good looking car...this one or any one. Classic, well proportioned, sleek, I've never seen one up close, and now i've got a car crush.

My next project car will probably be a 240z or 280z. Such a timeless design, such great lines. IMO a deep front air dam and fender flares are a MUST, they look so badass like that.

I'm thinking V8 swap, or maybe see how far the I6 can be pushed with intake/header-back exhaust/cams/head work/(maybe ITBs?)... Or maybe swap in a modified 280ZX Turbo or 300ZX Turbo powerplant to keep it in the family. So many options!

Pfft if you're keeping it in the family, go RB25.
Or maybe SR20, but they don't sound as soulful as the RBs.

AZ is one of the best places to buy them...and home to the largest S30 Z parts yard in the world. Else where they are getting far to rare.

I just RESOLD mine about 4 months ago to a guy in PA.

I'm thinking budget also

I don't really need an ass-ton of power, 250hp and a great suspension would be just right.

I've owned about 12 Z's over the years.

Just about every model except 260Z and 350Z.

It has been an addiction..and a reason why I have been the President of a Z club or two.

edit...

found a picture of the 70 that I was trying to restore about 12 years ago

You can get both of those engines relatively cheap.

I've got a friend here at work with a '77 280Z in pretty good original condition he's selling for $2750.

I'm guessing Reno is a bit further away than you'd be interested in shopping, but PM and I can get you some contact info.

The L28T is a great choice as well. Good for 300 HP in mostly stock form, straight bolt in, well balanced and torquey compaired to the SR20.

Tom here has his L28T putting out 500 HP.

I might be buying a '72 240z in parts for $1500 soon. It has the 280z I-6 too. I haven't taken a look at it yet but I would love a new project, these are such awesome cars. mh_wrx, that green is amazing

OP, avoid the automatic, you'll regret it. That seems like a lot of money for that as well. I'm not sure though based on your location. I know around here they're not so easy to find for cheap just like every other classic car. Too much rusted up junk here.
