Congrats!

How many kids are in the 182lb class in high school? I've seen only one locally, and he's more the Sumo type. I assume there are a few at the state level.

My kid was getting up at 5am to hit the Y gym (because nobody else is there at that hour) for 2 hours 5 days a week for the last 6mo.

He was dieting hard to get into the 162lb class and made it. I was really proud of the effort he put in to get there, especially in the covid era where he had to motivate himself and do it alone since the team wasn't working out together anymore.

Unfortunately he cracked heads with another kid during practice a week prior to regionals and got a concussion. Missed both regional and state meets.

He started the year wrestling 170. He is cut. Tall and very muscular. He is six feet tall at least. The coach moved him up early in the season to 182. He has never restricted hi diet except to eat smart, and has never cut weight to make a weight class. In fact, he more typically wrestled up and never had to worry about it.

As far as number of kids wrestling statewide in that weight class, I am not sure, maybe 50-100? He wrestled five times at state and pinned his opponent every time. He was undefeated for the season (his senior year).

So proud of him. He is a smart kid too.

I remember playing some included tank game demo when I bought my Voodoo2. I could not believe how fluid and smooth the graphics were using that thing.

Computers were so much fun back then but I try not to thing about how much money I spent on them. $1500 for an IBM Aptiva with an AMD K6 and 32MB of memory, $125 for another 32MB, $250 for a soundcard/CD-ROM/speaker package, $450 for a 17" monitor, $400 for a graphics card... ugh. I would NEVER spend that kind of money on computers and peripherals nowadays. Insane.

12MB baby! Back when a 20GB HDD was hot s**t too!

And agreed. 3DFX was about the end of my pc gaming days. I wasn't very good anyway. I prefer a good strategy game that any plebian pc can handle.

Oh man, I think my first PC I bought myself came with a 20MB HDD.

I remember 4yrs later when I paid $200 for a 40MB HDD and that was a *smoking* deal.

Along with a shiny new Western Digital chipset VESA Local Bus graphics card with a whopping 1MB of RAM.

I remember coworkers whose approach was to buy whatever $2000 would buy every 3 years.

I also remember my good friend working at Intel complaining people would pay $1000 for a phone, but thought they were being ripped off if a laptop cost more than $200.

Glue trap = mouse caught. I'm sure there's more than 1 but hopefully I'm wrong.

Snap trap > glue trap.

Unless you like to watch tortured mice die.

Mice are too smart for snap traps. Glue is more effective in my experience.

I have used the same snap trap repeatedly now to catch several mice throughout seasonal changes. They seem to come in towards the end of the fall or in the summer. Field mice mostly, since our area is considered rural.

Couple today...

#1
I was driving down my street and I see a neighbor driving towards me with something grey on the roof. Once they got close enough I saw it was also moving. It was their cat. I tried to honk to get them to stop but they kept going toward the main street. I turned around to catch them but the turned onto the main street before I could stop them. I caught them at the first light honked and told her the damn cat was on the roof. The cat them proceeds to jump down and nestle in my spare tire on my truck after a few minutes and several ******** honking as I am crawling around under my truck I got her out and shoved her into her owners car unharmed.

My work laptop works well enough it is 5 year old now and my company has been historically stingy about regular upgrades. Like your computer had to catch on fire before they would replace it. I just got an email that we are being upgraded to new 2-in-1 laptops.

Just submitted my last car payment. I've had a car payment of some form for pretty much my entire adult life. Car currently only has 45k miles on it, lots of life left in it. Plan to continue paying my normal amount into my investment fund so I can buy my next car cash or at least sit on the balance if it's 0% interest.

Feels good man.

Last year, right before the lockdowns started, I recorded a very, very silly rap EP with a friend whose house I was staying at in San Francisco. He's finally gotten around to mixing and mastering it and we are going to release it next week - it's much more clever and a lot funnier than I remember and I'm excited to be making fun music again.

Feels good, doesn't it?

My last payment was 12 years ago and I've got a nice sum saved up to pay cash when I'm ready for a new one.

Also random joy...

There was a stray cat hanging around at work. I would occasionally walk past it, and it was clearly abandoned. Obviously had been used to being around people, and it would ask anyone who walked past for help. Ir appeared healthy and no obvious signs of injury or disease.

I eventually realized it had been hanging out for a month in the weather. And that started bugging me. A lot.

Called around to the usual folks at work but all of them already had all the strays they could take. Like 4 or 5 each.

One guy knew some people with a rescue org. They got the cat, spayed it, and it had a new forever home with someone this week.

My aunt made me a batch of potato soup a couple weeks ago when I snow shoveled her driveway. I’m not a soup fanatic but holy hell that was exquisite and everything that comes out of her kitchen has that ‘stick to your ribs’ goodness. Mmmmm

Mixed gripe and joy: I spent a long time researching and assembling a mod list for the Fiesta ST, working with a tuner who has been great about answering my questions (Adam at Tune+). The idea was to have the quickest possible throttle response and the smoothest and most even powerband I could get.

We've been having trouble since I finally installed everything and flashed the first tune, in that the wastegate is sort of "chattering" and snapping closed at partial throttle and this morning we finally figured it out.

It turns out that we actually did too good of a job - the engine is making so much torque so quickly that the ECU is getting confused, which is such a bad ass problem to have.

I just won a case in the disputes tribunal (think Judge Judy) against a dirty lawyer who didn't want to pay tuition fees at our (private) school after he pulled his daughter out.

Even if he doesn't pay, at least the judge sided with us and dismissed his counter claim.
