Spent 4hrs under the water, not being able to drink or eat anything all day
I literally had 2min from the time the boat stopped moving to me puking my guts out.

Soon as we moored up, it took me about 2min before I started feeling poorly. I realized "Holy isht, I'm seasick!" I'd never had that happen before. I told the dive master I was going to put the rest of my gear on in the water. I grabbed the rail and vaulted over the side. Between the time I let go of the rail and my feet hitting the water...I felt better. Yeah, it was that fast. They handed my stuff down, and I got everything on while bobbing in 6ft seas. I felt fine. We did the dive for about an hour, and I was fine the whole time. Within moments of getting back on the boat, I was ready to hurl again. But I was last on, and as soon as I was aboard they were moving to the leeward side of the reef where it was much calmer. So I managed not to scream at the sharks that day. A couple of others on the dive actually puked through their regulator while underwater. Then they got swarmed by fish feeding on the chunks. |

yea, the fish were eating it as it hit the water
It's crazy though. Rollercoasters, offroading, small airplanes, etc and I'm fine. I've spent plenty of time on boats in rivers/lakes too, but this just ***ed me up good. |

So I think my gopro hates me. It came unclipped ran away within 5min on mon, an was recovered from the bottom at the end of the dive an hour later. The 2nd time it jumped from my BC pocket during a 1:30, 0.5mile dive. I had written it off the moment we got back and I realized it was gone. We went back to the same spot for more lobster the next day and I somehow found it about half way between the drop/pickup points. Then when we get back to the dock, it get's really pissed and trips me. I fall and smash my face into the housing. 2 teeth are gone, and i have a nice piercing through my lower lip. So now I have 2 days in miami to do whatever that's not diving. |

In Bonaire for the week and did a quick refresher / check dive yesterday from the resort. Headed out on a 2 tank boat dive on Tuesday morning. We can do unlimited shore diving but have to find spots that are also good for the snorkelers in our group.

Yup.
Although I read at least one person who estimated that based on the volume of the pony bottles he had and the depth, he should have had more like 15+ minutes of air, not 5. |

I'm from down under and been splashing about since 2008. As soon as I started cave diving I quickly lost the passion for salt water and just love exploring the kilometres of underwater passages in crystal clear fresh water. Sometimes things do get tight and visibility quickly disappears but it's a amazing world down there. I've finally got my sidemount setup as most of the interesting passages have 400mm (16") restrictions. The cave system below is great as it's relatively shallow (max depth 18m). So you can happily do three hours in there without any deco, though at 14deg C (57deg F) you generally have numb fingers by then.
A compilation of a few of my favourite shots. Last edited by tmp042; 10-08-2021 at 05:29 AM. |
