The bugout arrived today. Mrs GJ us super geeked. The weight is still quite light with the G10 scales, feels pretty good in the hands as far as grip. Not like the micarta roughness, though. For a knife this size, I think light is good. Not going to be doing chopping/axing things with it. Blade is quite sharp. This is all probably not news to knife people.

Excellent choice. It will serve your wife well for many years. If you don’t want to learn how to sharpen, which is a rabbits hole in itself, I recommend what others have mentioned about sending it in to be sharpened. Quality steel like that will hold its edge for a very long time, so it won’t be a frequent thing, but you can definitely mess it up if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you want to learn to sharpen, I recommend the spyderco sharpmaker and a cheaper knife in a softer steel like 8Cr13MoV to learn on.

Congrats on the new blade.

Congrats on the new blade.
Thanks.
I've had good results stropping my straight razor over the years, but it's a straight cutting edge on a concave blade so might be a different animal. I'll look into it either way. If it's once ever couple years, shipping it would be a small cost for a nice, fresh blade.

Just got my BK14 Eskabar

Now I just need some handle scales and a good sheath as I’m not a fan of the one it came with.

the bugout arrived and i found my 940(tucked away in the wife's camping backpack) so double win! really loving the bugout so far actually. slots in rather well with what i've got going on already. kind of fell out of love with the mini-grip since it's just too small for my hand.

The BK14 needed scales so I got the izula ones that "kinda" fit. I'd have bought the ones made for it but they aren't in stock anywhere. Meanwhile, the izula ones make it a whole lot better to grip than without.

haven't really been carrying over the past two years since baby life but before that 940 was the usual. PM2 for hiking/camping. the bugout is so slim and light it disappears in the pocket i bet more than a few will end up in the washing machine inadvertently as time goes on lol

Glad you found the 940. Losing knives is the worst. I’ve lost two over the years and I still hold out that one day I’ll find them. Drives me crazy!

I had posted it here but I had ordered a Para 3 to try out as a replacement for my lost 940. Within 2hrs of ordering I found the 940 after a month of it being lost.

Whose got budget?

For sale
Fujiwara Kanefusa 25th generation original katana

On behalf of a dear friend, we now offer a rare masterpiece for sale, a katana made by master bladesmith Fujivara Kanefusa 25th generation. The sword has been kept in a safe since 2005 but oiled now and them. It is in the same condition as it arrived in Sweden and this is valid for the handle and the cover as well. It goes without saying that such a sword is almost never available on the open market - only if you have the "right" contacts you will be approved as a buyer no matter how much money you are prepared to put up. Upon that, since a sword of this dignity is considered to be a national treasure, you need to get permission from the Japanese authorities or you must not export this piece of art outside Japan.

This is what my friend Mr. Satoru Sakurai, Moki Knives in Seki City says:

Swordsmith Fujiwara Kanefusa

"The name of the swordsmith is Fujiwara Kanefusa. His real name is Kazuo Katoh. He trained about 8 years at the very famous swordsmith (name is Gassan who was the living national treasure in Japan). After he returned home, he worked under his father who was 24th generation of Fujiwara Kanefusa, and he succeeded to Fujiwara Kanefusa 25th generation in 1984. Currently he is one of the most famous swordsmith in Japan, and he has already had great history in his life as swordsmith.

He dedicated his sword to several very famous shrines in Japan under the requirement of Japanese government, and he made a small sword for self-defense of Japanese emperor, and it is great honor as the swordsmith in Japan. He is four years younger than my age. So he is probably 63 years old now. He also has the several positions as the director of several important sword organizations. I had an opportunity to see him about 10 days ago. He was still very well.

So, I believe that he will continue to work as the swordsmith for long future. In addition, his son is now working with him as becoming 26th generation, and he is already famous in Japan. So, they history will be continued in the long future."

The price is fixed and cannot be discussed so, don't waste our time with various suggestions. The price USD 57,000 dollar is a minimum set price, the highest bid will get the sword. Full documentation available with certificate of authenticity.

Got a new knife today, fun little opinel No 8 in their stainless for including in the camping box. Just want something handy and easy to sharpen.

Testing it out it’s crazy sharp compared to my 940. I really need to tune it up or even send to Benchmade for their sharpening service.

Which wood. I keep looking at them at the army surplus store, but I want olive. Olive is pretty hard, like 3700 ibf.

worst knife ad video ever.

Every couple of years my dad forgets and gives me one of these. I’ve got 4-5 at this point. Nice little picnic knife. I’ve sort of scattered them throughout my life and they get used quite a bit.

Opinel Olive Wood Handle No8 - YouTube
Ok, so that didn't take long. I went into an Army Surplus and they had an olivewood No.08 stainless. It was less than MSRP, but probably wasn't when they put the price tag on 10 years ago. I ran from 220 - 2K grit on the handle. I only have up to 2.5K. If I keep going it will look almost like it's laquered. And it's something to do waiting for tests to run.

I've been using it all the time during the day as a kitchen knife, and I have to say it's a nice knife. It feels light and balanced - it balances just about at the end of the wood at the collar.

I also ordered these wood-handled steak / whatev knives. My friend has black plastic ones at his restaurant.

If any of you ever had the urge to get a balisong just for the hell of it, Kershaw now has a made in the USA model for just over $100 on BladeHQ called the Lucha. It's very solid and I feel I got more than my money's worth. Am I going to cut the **** out of my self sooner or later? Probably. They also sell a trainer version if you're more cautious and want to learn how to flip for real.

Really weird you posted that as I just looked at both of those like 20 minutes ago after seeing what the process is for sending my Kershaw for repair.

Absolutely no utility in them, but they're definitely fun. Balisongs and switchblades for everyone!

Any recommendations for something similar in size around the same price as this? I really like my Leek but I need something to fill in during the 6 week estimate to get it worked on.
